REPEAT OF MESSAGE - ATTEMPT TO MAKE EASIER TO READ ---
Taboo Tuesday. Last week I gave you a listing of foods to avoid. Today I am repeating that list with acceptable substitutes -- {couldn't get them to 'list' nicely, so have numbered them accordingly}

AVOID - 1)potatoes (red or white), 2)white rice, 3)corn (including popcorn, cornbread and meal), 4)carrots, beets,
5)white bread, 6)all refined sugar and refined white flour products, such as cookies, cakes, ets.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTES - 1)broiled tomatoes with cheese, sweet potatoes (yams) or mushrooms, 2)brown rice, 3)lentils, beans or okra, 4)broccoli, celery, asparagus, squash, hearts of palm or artichokes, 5)whole-grain (stone ground) breads, without added sugar, or whole-grain pastas, 6)nutrasweet, fructose, sugar-free ice cream, sugar-free yogurt, sugar-free vanilla ice cream and diet root beer (float)

good morning all,
So glad I'm not alone in weight stall. I'll try the free day thing, I need to do something.
The French onion soup is real simple : 2 tbsp butter,1-3 Mayan onions (sweet not hot),2 qts beef stock or 4 cans beef broth and 1can beef consommé and one can of water. Sauté sliced(1/4-1/2 inch) in butter until just light golden brown, keep stirring and adjust heat so they don't burn. Add beef stock, simmer 10-15 min. And I add 1/4-1/2 cup of Romano cheese grated and season with salt and pepper, I don't add salt because of the canned broth. If you like use a slice of French bread with a slice of cheese I use Havarti on top of your soup in bowl and put under broiler just to melt cheese. I only do this If I serve to guests.
Hope you enjoy it If something doesn't make sense let me know.
You all have a good eating day, I'll check in later if possible.
Hugs
Gail

Vanogay, you scared me with that first list when it looked like the acceptable substitutes were going to be taboo. Have you been able to keep to this list? How has it effected your weight and how you feel? I'm going to boil a pot of pinto beans tomorrow. Home cooked ones are so good and very versatile. I made it through the week with the taboos except for last night. I really wanted a brownie so instead of making a whole pan full - you know what happens then - I made a cup full in the microwave. I know I don't use the microwave because it changes the composition of food. but I figured brownies don't have a lot of food value anyway. No gold star for me this week.

Gail, that's pretty much how I make my soup. I love it and can't have it in restaurants.

I plan on having a good day, thank you. I'll check in later, too.

Well I'm back. Finally getting back into the swing of things again. Left last Thursday mornin for a Quilting Retreat in Rehoboth, DE. What a weekend. There were 7 from my group, but 52 quilters all told. Had an awesome time!!!! I've already put in my deposit for next May and Octobers retreats!! And I only managed to put on 1lb. while I was gone. I think that was pretty good, although I did empty my wallet going from shop to shop....hehehe. So now I'm getting back in the grove. Good to be back ladies. I'll have to read all that I've missed while I was gone.

Irish, I've had good results on this substitution, but dudn't stick to it. I was doing good today, but had some potato chips with my beans for lunch. They were small pieces and the baked kind, not fried, but still potato chips. Already down and today was the first day! I tend to do that to myself. Went to the doctor yesterday for a check-up on my broken arm and even with shoes on, I was down 4 #, but that doesn't show that way on my scales at home...aaarrgh............which do I use? Still have some time in this month to make mine look like the doctors. BTW, my arm is healing and I won't need surgery!!!! Soon I'll be back to sewing and even typing with two hands like some normal people - but then, me normal? I'm going to get another glass of water. TTFN

I did good with the taboo last week except for Friday. I made the mistake of going to a local bakery. I have had a gift card since Christmas and have avoided it since then. THey make a whole grain bread that I absolutely love. I am sure it contains sugar. I ate 5 slices. I have been avoiding bread for a long time and went nuts. It is gone now. I am having a hard time getting my water in. In the classroom at school I have to keep my drink in a back room where the door is blocked to keep a kid out. I used to keep it on the bookshelf where he couldn't reach it but the teacher didn't like it there. Also I have a hard time getting out to use the restroom if I drink that much. Looking for a new job.
Keep up the healthy eating. I bought my Halloween candy on Saturday and it is calling my name. I will have to go upstairs to my sewing room to get away from it.

vanogay. that's my usual 'avoid' list. but good to see it in print. about 3 days of just less fruit, and the wt is coming off again. last week, i guess i was just craving sugar, so overdid the fruit. but i guess i must of needed it, because now it's easier to eat less. BUT i did take some one's advice and made my breakfast a little larger. i don't know how many others eat instant oatmeal for breakfast, but that is the only thing i eat. i figure the less choices i make, same-0, same-0. the easier it is to leave stuff alone. instead of l packet of sugar free apple and cinna oatmeal, i have 2. looks to be like a good cup full now. (& i add extra cinn.) and it makes it easier to eat less thru out the day.
happy wed to you all.

This is the first month I have entered. Hope you received my fat quarter. I started out the month with a good weight loss but it has been at a stand still. Guess that is better than going up! Thanks for the support.

sewNso, the artificial sweetener in the oatmeal makes your body want more sweets. When I use flavored oatmeal (mine is not sugar free), I mix one packet with an equal amount of plain oatmeal. There's enough sugar in one packet to sweeten the plain, too, especially if you add cinnamon. I agree that one packet isn't enough for a meal.

Geez, I blew this week's taboo already. I had a baked potato with my steak last night. I should have chosen a restaurant with baked sweet potatoes. Well, back on the wagon - one mistake doesn't mean I stay off the wagon. If my printer worked, I'd post the list on the fridge to remind me. Maybe I'll get ambitious later and hook up the new one.

Have a good day, y'all. Eat clean, exercise and drink unsweetened liquids. First magazine has a blurb in it that says water and tea do count. That makes it a lot easier for me.

I AM losing weight and getting healthier.
