can someone here give me easy-to-understand directions for using paypal to collect money from someone else? i have an account with which i pay venders. i don't know how to send something and get paid back without opening a vender's account. i know they let you do it on an infrequent basis.

Hi Barbara, I have used mine to recieve money as well as pay. You can either just give the buyer your e-mail address associated with paypal and when they send you the payment Paypal lets you know and you can elect to receive a check, but Paypal will collect a % of it, I don't remember how much. If you elect to link a bank account, they will do two small deposits into your account and when you know that amounts you go into their page and verify those two amounts. Once the account is verified, you can transfer money from one account to another. I am sure they also charge you a percentage of the sale, but is a lot faster.

Stay away from PAYPAL I have had nothing but trouble from them. Seems like when ever you give your email out for the payment it opens a can of worms

I have had my account hacked into God knows how many times and it takes them at least a month to fix it back. Finally after 4 years of the crap I just dropped them and went to just cash only.

You can also use it as a Paypal credit against future services. I haven't had any trouble with my account from using PayPal.

moonpi, i buy things with paypal and i never had trouble. but you know me - i can't get my head around anything technical. it was my understanding that i could use them a time or two, not as a vender, but as a way for someone to send me money.

i suppose there is a % that they get, but it is what it is. at least it's safe and it's a way to change foreign money, right?

i have no idea what you mean by future services.

Just go to the 'request money' tab, and fill in the person's email address, and the amount. I believe they will then receive an email, with a link to pay you.
It's been a couple years since I set mine up, but I believe you'd have to already have your bank info set up, since you've been using it.
And if you're required to open a vendor account, that's really no big deal.

And they do take a percentage, although I can't remember what it is. A fairly cheap price, to me, for the ease in paying or recieving money from others - safely and quickly.

The only problem I ever had with Paypal was when we had sold an item, the person received it, then tried to claim she didn't. Paypal swiped the money back out of my account immediately, while it was being investigated! I think it took about 3-4 weeks to get it back, even though I had everything documented.
Other than that - zero problems! :D

I don't care for paypal either. I have had alot of trouble with them. They keep blocking my account saying a third party got into my account. Then i takes forever to figure it out. I have an account but use it very little. Plus they charge you for everything you do. So, if I sell stuff I just ask for checks and money orders. I try to trust people with the checks.

i've used paypal for years with no problems. you can either tell the person by email how much to send or you can use the "request money" button at the paypal website. just follow the steps and instructions:

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/req/index-outside]https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/we.../index-outside[/url]

you will pay a tiny fee if the person sending the money has PayPal deduct it from their bank account using their debit card or credit card. i'd rather pay the 30 cents than wait for a check to come in the mail, drive to the bank, and hope it doesn't bounce.

No problem here with PayPal. Ive used it since is first came available. Mostly I use it like a swap on Ebay. I sell something, the money goes to my PayPal account, I buy something it comes from the money in my PayPal. like the online quilt shops that use paypal. One click and I'm done. One thing never never send your password to PayPal. They never ask for it through an email. That is one way to get your account hacked. They never send you an email asking you to supply your password or account info to a paypal link either. I don't use my checking account for Pay Pal jus credit card that is for online stuff only, it has a very small limit.
