I sure wish I knew about these when my two girls were growing up. They would have had a ton of them for summer.
I saw at WalMart last Friday they carry fabric with elastic on it for sundresses. Those would be alot nicer for good wear. I didn't look at the price, Great Granddaughters could wear something like that but, Mommy likes expensive clothes for them.

I've made many with my sister's church group. Using the Nancy's Notions pattern I make a wider casing in the top front and back to use 1/2" elastic instead of 1/4", so I make the armholes 1/2" longer to allow for the wider casing fold down. Some pillowcases can be too sheer so I have been using stash to make the hot dog pillowcases, then turning them into dresses. A simple pocket is very useful. I also make dresses for girls/women with larger waists or hips by using 2 larger rectangles of fabric seamed together rather than the regular width of fabric pattern. Nice sheets and curtains can also be used to to make the dresses. The dresses are fun and very easy to make. We sent them to Little Dresses for Africa. There's a similar group- Dress a Girl Around the World. Both organizations send dresses here and abroad- wherever they are needed. Google "Pillowcase Dress" and you'll find many patterns, video tutes, and lots of inspiration. Have fun!

I have made them. I use fabrics with boarder prints on them. Very easy to do. Little Dresses for Africa, good cause.

Little dresses for Africa also wants boys shorts from any pattern. We are doing this at the next guild meeting. I didn't like the idea of elastic in the front and back of the dress. I thought the shoulder ties should go thru the front and back casing and they could shir it on as tight as they wanted it. I like the idea of a bottom ruffle. What if the elastic stretches out? Providing they last that long.

They had some goo d hints on there especially if you don't have the little one there to measure.

I make dozens a month for our group at church. We do them for dressagirlaroundtheworld.org and send them out to missionaries via people hand carrying them when they travel or whenever a church is sending out a group to do some missionary work. This past summer a priest who has 5 churches in Africa asked us to send him 300 dresses and at least 100 britches ( these are made from t-shirts). The instructions for both the dresses and britches can be found on their web site. I guess this is why I don't do as much quilting as I like. They are easy to make along with being fun too!
