Pinterest is an online pinboard, i.e., kind of like a digital bullentin board. You can set up "boards" for any topic that you choose. I have recipes, my son's upcoming birthday party ideas, clothing, quilting, etc. Then when you are browsing around Pinterest or the internet if you see something that you like you can "pin" it to your board.

I like it because it helps to visually organize things, it keeps my bookmarks from filling up, and since it is online you can access it from anywhere. So, for example, say you are visiting with a friend and you remember that you wanted to show her a new pattern or techinique that you "bookmarked". If you pinned it on Pinterest you would just log into your account and show it to her. With a regular bookmark you couldn't do that you would have to wait until you got home to email her the link. The other thing that is nice about it is there is no more forgetting why in the heck you bookmarked that site because they have moved the site or the link is dead.

Is it another time waster? Yes. However, I think it can be a nice tool if utilized properly. And since quilters are such visual people it just makes sense.

AFQSinc

Thanks for the explanation! All along I had thought it was just a place where you looked at other people's "stuff". I thought ... "why?". The way you explain it, it sounds like a tool I could use. I currently drop pictures of quilts that I see here on QB and elsewhere into different folders on my desktop. Convenient yes, but only possible to access from my PC. If I'm traveling and find something interesting while browsing on my IPad I have to remember to find it again when I'm home on my PC to drop a picture of it somewhere. I might have to check into PInterest!

AFQ Sinc - Thanks. Your explanation makes so much sense. I thought it was just a place to see other's stuff. I like having access to my bookmarked stuff when I'm traveling.

I joined and do take a look about twice a week, but I find it a bit over whelming so much to look at and so many repeats.

AFQ Sinc ... great explanation. I find it's like looking through a magazine and tearing out pages to keep for later reference but you immediately put it onto organized boards and there's no having to look through binders or files where you may have put them. I don't watch TV hardly at all and would much prefer to "waste my time" looking at Pinterest.

A question about Pinterest and QB.

Can I "pin" something from QB, and if I do, how would it work? For example ... I see a picture of quilt on QB that I like and want to pin. Most of the "pins" that I see are photographs. Do I "pin" the thread with the picture of the quilt that I like and the picture is automatically the image that I see on my board? Or do I somehow pin the actual picture?

The reason I ask is that after viewing a bunch of pin's (via a search on the word "quilt"), none of them were links from the QB and I thought that was odd. because there is so much stuff here.

I have some pins from the quilting board on my pinterest. Matter of fact i have 3 boards set up just for quilting and patterns and tutorials.
It is amazing what you can find there, I am totally addicted.

I"m on it - every day. It's a great place to pin things you like, want to do, or to pin your own things for others to see. Some pins lead you to tutorials of how to do them, some to where you can buy the item you see.
If you see something on the internet or a blog or web site that you like that is a photo you can pin it to your account to one of the boards you have created. Then you can refer back to it, and so can all the other members of Pinterest. You have to have an invitation to be a member. Or you can go on to the site and ask to be a member. If you have someone invite you it's is quicker to become a member.

If you want an invite send me a PM. I'll need your email to invite you.
