if the bags are cut into one inch loops and then joined with a slip knot they are pretty sturdy when crocheted into a tote. It takes a lot of bags though.

The few bags I get from the grocery store are rather very thin so they go in the recycle bin. I made some out of fabric and they have held up very well for years.

There is a group of ladies that cut, assemble, crochet these bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. A terrific group that does assembly kind of work and gets the mats done for homeless. Wonderful people here in Texas.

Put in a search for "plarn patterns" and you will find some tutorials and patterns.

I know how to make them (crochet). I just wanted to know if anyone crocheted them for them self.
There are lots of tutorial's on youtube that show you how to make them. It also shows you how to cut them so the you don't have to join them,

I've made them but I find them too cumbersome for grocery bags. I prefer them for tote bags, onion storage bag and planters. The bags have become much thinner since I've made mine.

I made one that was many colors to put........my plastic bags in! It has a long handle that loops over the door to my walk-in sewing closet. I had so many in that bag.....I took them all out except 10 and then folded them and put back in. It takes up so much less room, yet you still have some on hand for lining waste baskets, etc. I fold the plastic bag into a strip (longways) and then start from one end and fold it in a triangle (like you would fold a flag) and then tuck the end inside itself. It seems "neater" to me and keeps me from keeping "hundreds" of them!

I have not seen a bag made from plastic bags but several years back I was gifted with a great hat crotched out of Walmart bags. I loved that hat but lost it on a fishing trip.
