Has anyone made one of these? If so was it hard? I want to make one, but can't find a pattern here locally and don't want to pay shipping. I was going to try to wing it.

Those r cute!!

Have you seen the octagonal table toppers in Nancy's Notions? Seems very similar. You could probably figure it out by 6" squares and triangles. Take a look at the pic in NN.

One of the members here, AndiR, posted a photo of her finished project of this. In the post she mentions that she has a blog. I'm not sure how to reference her post, except to say to go to her profile, her posts, and check out her 12/5/11 post, Too Hot to Handle.
What a really cute project!!!! |
Ooo! That is cute & I bought one of those irons that I haven't even opened yet!
|
Check out the site "You Can do This" and I think there is a free one on there. I printed it off for my files.

Did you find this web site? It sounds like a good one and I'd like to visit it!
thanks!:o |
I would also like to make one of these on my own. I was able to find the website. However, it does not deal with sewing or patterns. Can anyone help with finding a free pattern for a travel iron caddy.
|
Awe, how cute!
|
Not sure if you managed to find a free pattern but here is a link to a U tube site that shows the folding and positioning of the loops and buttons on the caddy.

They are really cute

Type into Google travel iron tote/caddy pad pattern and a whole page of sources comes up. The first one is a Bernina site that offers the pattern. I did not go any further.

This is the one you show in your post and the pdf has all info. |
no they are not hard to make
|
I purchased the pattern but haven't made it yet.

I don't have the pattern but bought one from a lady in my local guild who was selling them for a fund raiser. I love having it but will caution you about one thing: the table I had it on was showing wear from the heat of the iron. Seems they don't protect as well as they should. Just be careful where you put it.

This will take you to a free PDF of the pattern you are looking for |
I think the website mentioned earlier is called you can make this. com. They have all kinds of projects. It is a fun site. They do have a section of free patterns, quite a few really. Don't know if they have the iron caddy or not. I bought the pattern at LQS which included the reflective fabric. I think it cost about 15.00, altogether. Actually for me, it was kind of tricky to make and I did have to look on youtube to figure out how to fold it up and fasten it. I probably shouldn't admit that, but it is true:)

Free Iron Tote Pattern
tricountyquilters.weebly.com/uploads/3/0/2/4/3024945/iron_caddytote.pdf This will take you to a pdf for the instructions and pattern for the iron tote caddy. The last address I gave when I went back and looked at it, I realized it only gave instructions for a class you could buy. Sorry about that. This site I double checked before posting, and it does have the pattern for free. |
I felt the same way. I found one when we were on vacation. Stop it to some quilt shops on your next car trip and you may find one.
|
I made that pattern in a class. The caddy was super simple. The line where to mark the folds of the fabric is the most important part. It's a good seller at craft shows as a baby changing pad. It holds wipes and diapers, open and use. Also can be used as a lunch tote, open it up and have a clean table mat. Use the vinyl covered cotton fabric for the lining for the baby pad and lunch mat.
