(k)nit 1, (m)ake 1 stitch (increase), (k)nit 1

It means that you add a new stitch between the two knitted stitches. There are different methods of how to add a stitch. You don't want it to look like you have a hole in there.

I learned to knit back in the 60's from a book.I knit every thing. mostly all over designs. But never saw the m1 stitch before. thanks to every one the sweater is now done.
