Best Friend Forever

QuiltE 01-20-2013 07:56 AM

Thanks Humbird!!
I had it on the list originally, then removed it when I was trying to keep the list focused on quilting acronyms and definitions. I've plan to update the list and re-post it sometime, so will add it this time round, for sure!

For those who are saying ... where is this list? ... here's a link!

I had to share this regarding the list: My DH and I always ask each other what kind of day we are having when he comes home from work. He responded once with 'It's been an HBS day (History channel, Beer, and Sleep) as he was dead tired coming home from standing on his feet on cement floors for over 10 hrs. He was stumped when I responded with, "And I am into PMS, so watch out!" He had that worried look on his face as he knew PMS days were over after my hysterectomy. He figured it out when he came into the sewing room and I had a handful of MM's in one hand and a glass of Pino Grigio in the other. "Ah" he says. "Pino, MM's and Sewing!" Bingo!

NanaC .... I like your PMS version better than the Pizza one! :)

I still can't decipher MUF

Sorry, KwiltyK ... it's not one I am familiar with.
Perhaps ask the person who has used it ... and if you'd post the answer here, I'll add it to the list for updates.

I think PAS should be added to the list! The sister of someone on the QB came up with it. PAS (Pattern Acquisition Syndrome) in my case is the addiction I struggle with after having gotten my fabric addiction under control......

Tartan 01-20-2013 10:56 AM

I could be wrong but I think WUF stands for UFO from our Argentina member?

Do you have the link to CraftyBear's?

I think I have already consolidated her listing here, or on the one I am working on for the next update!
Just in case, I'd like to check and make sure.

I just keep adding, as new/different ones come along!

DogHouseMom 01-21-2013 11:41 AM

Well QuiltE ... if your going to add non-quilting acronyms for those of us who are AC ... you need to add one of YOUR favorites which I see is missing from the list.

ITL!!!

I can't tell you how many times that one threw me.

QuiltE 01-21-2013 12:14 PM

Oh but it's already there ... HST HST HST !!! :D

I'm guessing ITL, is it's southern cousin?

DogHouseMom 01-21-2013 02:14 PM

Hanging head in total SHAME!!! You KNOW I'm AC!! And yes - I saw HST and the *wrong* definition :)

ahem ... let me try that again .....

ITA !!! ITA!!! ITA!!!!!!!!

(you might as well add ITL as well. It can be "I'm a total loser!")

KwiltyKahy 01-21-2013 03:00 PM

I sent a PM to the user. I'll let you know what she says.

MUF = Masterpieces under fermentation.
It is not a term created by me. I only adhered to the idea of Kelly's blog Charmen Chatter (http://cottoncharmquilts.typepad.com/) in January 2011. There she explained that it considers that everything that we have unfinished, pieces are masterpieces in fermentation until the day that we find you the "spin" that was needed give terminated.
In this thread said that meant the acronym (2 Muf's finished: Christmas Table Runners for 2!) thinking that it had been clear, I hope I am sorry that not I kept repeating it.

This is the reply I received from GVO9

QuiltE 01-21-2013 04:02 PM

DHMom .... *snicker*

KwiltyK ... priceless! and I have a lot of those MUF PhDs!

You two had me rooooooooooaring with laughter! :)

Here's another one for the list. Learned it this weekend at a guild meeting: SABLE=stash accumulation beyond life expectancy. Fits me to a 'T'.

Edie 01-22-2013 04:13 AM

You know, I don't understand acronyms as far as quilting or BFFs or whatever for the life of me. Have we gotten so lazy that we cannot say Bev is my best friend forever" and not "Bev is my BFF?"

My mom, age 96 and I, age 74-1/2, had a conversation the other day about how words have gotten so sloppy, kids can't hold a pencil correctly, printing and writing is going by the wayside sooner than later and no one cares. Spelling is absolutely atrocious and no one seems to realize that acronyms are going to become so much a part of our social lives that people are not even going to be able to communicate if they don't have a list of acronyms to go along with their texting (which, in and of itself, is a danger to any driver on the road). All of this stuff has been placed in front of kids and as they grow up they aren't going to know that all of this starts with learning how to read words not letters, learning how to write words and not just letters and applying what they have learned by passing on their learning and intelligence to their children. I saw a show on tv the other day that soon people just aren't going to learn cursive - it is becoming outdated. Remember how we used to have that paper with the wide lines to practice our capitol letters and the narrower line in between to practice our small letters? Well, folks, that is becoming a thing of the past. I totally understand the use of some acronyms - NATO, ASAP, DDS, USAF, NHL (Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma - not to be confused with National Hockey League). But to use acronyms instead of saying Best Friends Forever, Dear Husband, OAO (my only acronym - for my husband - One and Only), Lots of laughs, roll over on the floor laughing my a-- off. If people need a list to write down three or four initials, what the heck is so hard about writing the whole doggone word??? There, I feel so much better. I spent 12 years in school perfecting my penmanship, spelling, ability to write a coherent and "make sense" sentence to let the rest of this world go to hell in a handbasket. Edie
