American Girl Doll clothes

3 Attachment(s)
My granddaughter has an American Girl doll. I have been having fun making clothes for her. DGD asked for a pink party dress for her doll so I made one from pink satin and scraps of lace and ribbon. I found out she is getting another American Girl doll for Christmas so i had to make the second party dress. She will get them for Christmas. The purple dress is just for fun. The hunter green satin dress didn't photograph well but you can get the idea. I hope she will like them.

Very, very cute! You did an excellent job on them. Doll clothes are really fun to make.

Those are wonderful! Wish they were around when I was a little girl.

They are all pretty but I like the Green Party dress best.

I to have been sewing for the granddaughter's AG doll for Christmas....the clothes I am making are mostly sun dresses and a short set. I ordered some sandals in different colors and a smart phone and a Bible for her AG doll from "Home Sew". The shoes from Home Sew fit the AG dolls perfect and they have a nice selection not real cheap 5.50 and up but they are cute and hard to resist. Just in case you need shoes to go with those dresses.

I think I will dig out the American Girl doll patterns I have and try making it again. Those are beautiful and nicely made. Great job.

I am so happy that dolls the size of AG are in fashion. It is so much easier to make the clothes than the Barbie doll clothes. So many prints are the right size too.

Your dresses are just beautiful! Your granddaughter will be thrilled.

I got my granddaughter an 18 inch Journey doll for Christmas (from Target). Her other grandmother wants to get her an American Girl doll when she's older and can "take care of it" but she's in kindergarten this year and I think the right age to enjoy her doll, so I got her a less expensive version so she can really play with it. I just ordered the pattern book "30 Minute Doll Clothes" from Nancy's Notions. It arrived Saturday. I'm hoping to get a few quick outfits completed before Christmas, nothing as elaborate as these beautiful dresses! Mine will be "play clothes!" I also ordered doll bunk beds that I found on Amazon and you know what that means...quilts will have to be made. I'm going to try to do that with my granddaughter when we visit over Christmas. I'm going to have the fabric precut and let her help with simple sewing. I also purchased two fabric panels from fabric.com that have historic dress pieces printed on them, ready to cut and sew. I doubt that they will get done by Christmas as I have several other big projects in the works, but maybe I can mail them to her for Valentine's Day.

As far as shoes, you can get 18-inch doll shoes from Nancy's Notions: http://www.nancysnotions.com/

You can also find shoes and other goodies at Springfield Dolls: http://www.springfielddolls.com/

I like to make American Girl doll clothes too. I started sewing doll clothes in the 5th or 6th grade-a strapless formal for my doll. My sister was quarantined for scarlet fever (which she did not have) We were all to stay in the house. My grandmother came to stay with us and helped me sew.

Love, love. love!! Shoot now I don't have time but her birthday is in Feb!!!! I do Have time for that! Has anyone seen patterns for the doll and child look-a-like outfits????? Oh my gosh, Home Sew has 5 pages of shoes!!!!!!

Nice job - the dresses are beautiful and I'm sure they will be a hit. I can't wait for my DGD to get old enough for an American Girl look-alike - can't afford the real thing. I used to make and sell outfits for Cabbage Patch dolls when they were all the rage when my daughter was in grade school - they were a lot of fun to make and the extra cash wasn't bad either. Very nice touches with your trims.

She's gonna love them, they are adorable!

My DGD is 15 and has laid her AG dolls aside. Oh how I miss those days!

I have Molly and a suitcase full of her clothes. I never did outgrow my love of dolls. My DH calls me his 56 year old little girl sometimes, and I guess it's true.

How darling! I learned to sew making doll clothes. Now I finally have a granddaughter with an AG doll. I have several patterns and am anxious to make outfits and to sew with her. I might get a doll for me too so we can do this together. Boy was I shocked at the price of the doll and the store bought clothes. How do parents ever afford all this?

Mariposa 11-26-2012 08:34 PM

These dresses are beauties! You do such lovely work! Your DGD is blessed to have you to make pretties for her! :)

i love making doll clothes and i have inherited my daughter's dolls. i am getting a boy doll, henry from pottery barn kids, and that will make 2 boys and a bunch of girls! i was amazed that there are you-tube presentations on how to make a boy doll from a girl doll. that option never occurred to me! guess i'd better get with the program!!
your dresses are lovely! have you thought of making a matching dress for your dgd?
