DD received a Wii along with several games for Christmas. I've spent so many hours trying to beat her at bowling, skill ball, ping cup, frisbee golf, miniature golf, horseshoes and wakeboarding that I can barely lift my arms today. My right arm is really hurting and my left one isn't far behind. Canoeing has killed both of them. The other games just mutilated the muscles and joints in the right one. This old lady should have known better than to try to outlast an 11 yr old kid. So, is anyone else suffering from Christmas fun?

cjomomma 12-31-2010 05:46 AM

LOL!! That's funny. I need to get 1 but then again I might not get any quilting done.

raptureready 12-31-2010 05:56 AM

No, you'll still quilt, it will just hurt more. LOL From my neck to just above my waist feels like I've been badly beaten. Maybe I'll try the Wii Fit Plus so that I can hurt evenly all over more than anywhere else.

LOL You poor thing! But look at all the exercise you got! And fun!! About all I can do is sit at the table and play games with the youngest two grands, and I miss doing the more active things with them. Your daughter will have great memories!

Yeah, that's it, building quilting endurance with the Wii. You think they might come up with a specialized game for that? Practice cutting with the rotary cutter, speed threading of machines, FM quilting, etc.

hmmm, actually that might be rather fun....

Sounds like you just found yourself a financial opportunity!!!

Yep, X-box kinec kicked my butt.

CarrieAnne 12-31-2010 06:11 AM

LOL, sounds like you found a FUN way to get hurt though!
I got a pair of those new shape up shoes for Christmas, I really wanted a pair, but I am wonderingif its going to really hurt my legs to wear them all day at work....I want the shape up, lol, but not sore muscles!

kateyb 12-31-2010 06:11 AM

I've heard that seniors are loving the wii. They can get exercise at home and have fun doing it. They really have fun with the grandkids.
Some nursing homes are even getting them.

Jabear617 12-31-2010 06:14 AM

You sound like you made a bunch of great memories and thats great! I am glad you had a good time:) H*A*P*P*Y*N*E*W*Y*E*A*R!!

LOL I tried a pair of those on in the store and didn't even get fully upright before falling! Too much counter weight in the rear I guess.

And yes, KateyB, us 'seniors' are just loving it---all the way to the BenGay shelf.

tubing & snowshoeing with 10 & 12 year olds did me in. I didn't get in the photo but am in a similar position down the hill. LOL

Today I think I will exercise my fingers chatting on this board. :)

My illness isn't from playing wii or showshoeing but just from being around my DGC. All three had colds so you can guess what I have now. But how can you resist hugging, kissing, and holding a 4-year old DGS, 2-year old DGS, and an 8-month DGD. I'm paying for it now...congestion, coughing, general lousy feeling. I slept in the recliner last night to let DH get some freedom from my non-stop coughing, but he's already been warned that tonight I'm back in bed. I'm making myself do some stuff today in hopes of feeling better. My plan to do "stuff" includes checking in on the QB, going to JoAnn's to check out the sales, and then I'm throwing in some quilting in the afternoon and evening. Sounds like a cure to me....LOL

redkimba 12-31-2010 06:52 AM

Raptureready - your Wii playing made me laugh. My last-years office party featured several wii stations. I did go home very sore from playing bowling with one of the kids...

I've been slightly sore from house clearing. However, I don't mind being sore because at this point, I need all the "exercise" I can get.

sueisallaboutquilts 12-31-2010 06:56 AM

Rapture, you crack me up!!
We went bowling and had a blast!! Haven't gone in years. Bowled 3 games with progressively worse scores. My first game was 114, not bad! Then it all went downhill LOL
Our son kept taking pics on his phone - so cute :D:D
Happy New Year!!!
Oh yeah, ibuprofen that night before bed

Rub the bottoms of your feet with Vicks Vapor Rub & put on socks when you go to bed - I heard this will stop the coughing. :)

My arms & back got a real workout with our blizzard the day after Xmas.

Luv Quilts and Cats 12-31-2010 07:48 AM

The only thing that was hurt from my Christmas was my scale! Still, I did not gain as much as I thought. I am hoping for a lighter new year!

Ditter43 12-31-2010 08:18 AM

It seems my exercise right now is coughing! I have coughed so much my back and ribs hurt. I had to sleep sitting up last night to stop the coughing. Today I feel loopy from too much cough syrup and mucinex! And now the nose is starting to run again. Maybe I'll have a skinny nose!
Seriously, if I'm not better by Monday, I'm going to the doc! This is not my idea of fun!!! :-(

irishrose 12-31-2010 08:30 AM

I totaled my car on Monday. My knees are getting better by the day, but the pain in one lung isn't, so I have a Christmas season to remember. My 12 year old granddaughter came to take care of the dogs and me and had a developing staph infection. Her parents came yesterday, took her to get it lanced and took her home. I spent hours Lysoling and bleaching everything and washing all that could be washed. I think that plan backfired. Poor little girl.

I did make it to my lqs's only sale of the year. I plan on visiting fabric.com's online sale today to collect some batiks before I start a fabric moratorium tomorrow. That's my exercise for today. Only my fingers and my checkbook will get a workout.

As far as fitness shoes go, some are more stable than others. I love my Avias, but I wore them inside several days before I ventured out.

bettysew 12-31-2010 09:40 AM

I got a pair of East Spirit shape up shoes and wear them every day.
Never got any sore muscles from them.

lol same here. My DS got a wii and we played tennis and swordplay all xmas day (I liked bowling but he wouldn't play it because I kept beating him  ). Needless to say we were a bit sore for a while but it was fun. I'll have to learn to play left handed or I'll end up with a nicely toned right arm and a wimpy left arm

LMAO, Wii can certainly give you a run for your money. As a matter of fact since we're staying home tonight for new years, you've inspired me... maybe i'll force my husband to go virtual clubbing with me in our living room, LOL - I have that game "Just Dance" and it's lively and fun. Dance to that all night and you'll definetly be sore in the AM. Maybe we'll do Karaoke too since I have all the "Lips" series for XBOX. Hey - It good clean fun! No worries about the drunkards outside killing us in a car...

Please have a safe holiday this evening and enjoy your New Year's Eve celebrations! Much happiness and prosperity for 2011!

Explosive blessings, abundance and inspiration to you all!
