Hi,

I was wondering if anyone weaves on the antique looms. I now have 2 of them and trying to learn to get them warped so I can start weaving some rag rugs.

I am 53 years old, married and lives in Indiana. I would love to hear from others that weaves.

My mother weaves, she has several looms but I have no idea how they work so I can't really help you... maybe someone else can give you a bit of help :)

I have seen it done, but have never tried it myself.

Hi,

I have made 2 rugs so far but haven't warped the looms by myself so I guess I will just have to dive in and figure it out.

Wow, I'm impressed. I wouldn't even know where to start.

Do you have the really big ones that take up a whole room? Oh find this old Disney movie to watch: So Dear To My Heart. The grandmother uses a big loom and it has lots of quilts in the movie. They are called qivers and she won't take her qivers to the state fair. I love this movie. I laughed out loud every time I watch it.

Hi,

Yes they are big floor looms. I used the smaller one at the fair and bought it from a guy just need to figure out how to warp it so I can start weaving rugs.

I weave on a backstrap loom. It's a bit more portable than yours. ;) One day I would like to try a loom like yours. I love weaving -- it is so relaxing. I hope you will post pics once you finally get started.

I have my grandmother's two harness loom.

It is BIG!---She used it to make rag rugs on it.

We had it set up at one time and it took up half of our bedroom.

I haven't done anything with it since that time. If anyone is interested in buying it, please PM me. I have no idea what it would be worth or even how to ship it.

(I live in CA for anyone who wanted to pick it up rather than have it shipped)

I have never seen it done or done it. I sure would like to though. I love woven rugs, placemats etc. GOOD LUCK and I hope you post some pics of loom and results.

Hi Joan,

You should get the loom out and start making rugs! What kind is the loom?

I would love to have one or love to know someone close to me that had one. When I was growing up our neighbor had one and made rag rugs. I can remember my Mom sewing strips of fabric together & we would roll them in balls and take to her for our rugs. She would let me do a few rows when we were at her house. So fascinating.

The only weaving I have done is card weaving - my sister is the expert in our family. She really enjoys Swedish weaving.

Have you checked for a yarn shop in your area? I recieved the class schedule for one close to here, and one of their classes is on how to warp a loom. Perhaps there is a place near you. (This class is in Kansas.)

Hope you find someone who can help. :D
