August 2013 Weight Loss Adventure with a Prize!!!!!

On August 1st, weigh yourself and write it down. Please DO NOT send it to me. On August 31st, weigh yourself again and PM me your loss. This is weight lost not percentage lost. I will announce the winner on September 3rd.

The prize is a monthly themed FQ pot. PM me for mailing address, ALL FQ's should be mailed by the 10th of the month.

You need to post on the thread at least once a week to be eligible for the winning "skinny quarters" FQ pot and to be declared the "biggest loser" for the month.

You cannot win 2 months in a row.

Chit Chat is allowed, as well as WAYWO (what are you working on). Please stay positive and uplifting as possible to keep us all on track. Share any tips, recipes, encouraging words and {{{{HUGS}}}}

The Prize is a themed FQ from each member who signs up. Once a winner is declared, I will contact the winner and the FQ's will be mailed by the 6th.

As summer is moving along, we are starting to think about cooler temperatures. So to help up desiring those cooler days of fall the theme this month is COLORS OF FALL. What reminds your of fall. Please send quality fabric that you would want to receive. As always if you don't have the theme, send what you have. If you don't have a FQ, you can send a linear 1/4 yard. If you have signed up to be in the running for the prize please send in your FQ to the hostess by the 10th of the month. As the winner has worked hard for her prize. It could be you.

Eat healthy, exercise, make wise choices and lose weight, but most of all have fun!!

Sign up deadline to be part of the prize is August 5th at 9 am central time. You are encouraged to contribute to the thread even if not in for the prize. All are welcome even just for support.

Beachbound 08-01-2013 06:19 AM

Here I am! I plan on having a much better August.

Tothill 08-01-2013 06:37 AM

I am in. I will get the FQ out early next week.

Shadowirish 08-01-2013 07:52 AM

I'm in again; you have my F4.

QuilterMomma 08-01-2013 08:05 AM

Yeah, I know I am in. Going to work harder this month, but was not displeased with the weight loss last month. Listening to your pointers and paying attention to the calorie intake helped me out. Also attitude got better. Looking forward to a happy month!

Jim's Gem 08-01-2013 10:07 AM

Alright, I am home and in control of what I am eating (for the most part) I am in for this month. What is the fabric for September. I usually like to send more than one month.

I would have loved the batik's but, alas, I knew that I would not be around to weight in or anything and of course, being on the road for 5 weeks I gained weight. Now to lose what I gained as well as lose what needs to be lost ( lots of lbs)

createfourpaws 08-01-2013 11:45 AM

August is colors of Fall
September is floral

Seems I need to repeat batiks each quarter. What do you all think???

Sounds good to me, then be sure to post a picture each week so we can stay focused on the prize.

Beachbound 08-01-2013 01:01 PM

Batiks really caught our attention, I vote for doing them again. I can't give up batiks twice; I'll fight harder next time:o

CindyA 08-01-2013 01:37 PM

I'm in again and you have my FQ.

Jim's Gem 08-01-2013 03:38 PM

I would definitely vote for batiks again!!!

irishrose 08-01-2013 05:39 PM

Batiks again for sure - it certainly generated a lot of interest and in my case, was a good motivator whether I won or not.

I am in again.

meanmom 08-01-2013 06:53 PM

Im In for August. I love batiks and they are a great motivator.

Teddybear Lady 08-01-2013 09:41 PM

I'm in again. You have my FQ. Looking forward to a better month. I was only down 2 lbs. in July. At least I was down.

Groovy Pieces 08-02-2013 03:55 AM

Pete 08-02-2013 04:29 AM

I'm in for Aug--- and NO I did not win the Batiks -- DRAT!! Double drat! I Gained!!!! and, I won't tell you how much. I'd like to blame it on a horrible month of flareups with pain ....but it is really my willpower and asking myself if the bites are worth it.Am starting on a UFO from several years ago and am attempting crazy quilting and C. England's picture piecing!!!!
Good Luck G.P. and welcome!!!!

countrymaid 08-02-2013 05:34 AM

I'm in again. This month I'm looking for onderland (under that 200# mark). I'm excited! I've done very well since joining all of you. You have been a great encourager to me.

Shadowirish 08-02-2013 06:06 AM

Woohoo countrymaid! I'm on track to reach onderland before my birthday in Oct...wouldn't that just be the greatest gift to myself?... Well, except for fabric maybe

Vanogay 08-02-2013 12:17 PM

Yeah, I'm back in. My computer has been on and off and on again. We were struck by lightning last week - took out the phone (it's still not back up), the TV (a new expensive one is in the house, now - on its own surge protector, thank you) and the wireless router for the computer. The company has been having some troubles with the poles and transcievers themselves, so that's the on/off again nonsense here. I'm ready to demand a free month from them. Just got back from the grocery - company tonight, but it's roast with au jus gravy and veggies. I did buy an apple pie for dessert, but won't eat a big piece - apple pie is not my favorite, so no real problem. I did lose in July, but probably not enough for the batiks (sob, sob).
This week, I am going to spend one or two days doing nothing but cutting. I'll have the projects in boxes ready to go when I'm ready to go. Have one or two that are really on the top of my list, these new ones will be sitting for a bit, I'm afraid, but they'll be cut. GOtta go. Since the computer is up, need to check my bank account - bill pay and the like before I lose the internet again. Eat healthy everyone and I've got a great one for Tuesday's tip.

meanmom 08-02-2013 01:16 PM

I am hoping to hit wonderland soon myself. Hope to be there by my birthday in September. I should be there by now but I can't behave myself. I am going to Myrtle beach later this month. Hopefully I won't be as bad as I was in Hilton head.

irishrose 08-02-2013 03:23 PM

Tomorrow is my class reunion. A catered dinner - that can be good or bad. I have to travel 100 miles and usually don't overeat on the road. I've lost more weight since the 31th - don't know what's going on, but I'll take it. Until last month, I hadn't lost more than 2 pounds in a month for a least 15 years.

I know we are very late up here in the north country, but the peaches are ripening. They are so good. My night snack has been a fresh peach with peach Greek yogurt and walnuts. Yummy and very filling.

I AM losing weight and becoming healthier.
Juyd

Scotlass 08-02-2013 04:00 PM

I am a first timer on this challenge and I think it is just what I need to stay focused! I have 3 months to make changes in my cholesterol/blood pressure and it never hurts to have some friendly encouragement! thanks.

irishrose 08-02-2013 04:43 PM

Welcome, Scotlass, and welcome back everyone else. Here we go again!!!

createfourpaws 08-02-2013 07:48 PM

Welcome new comers, we are a fun group with lots of encouragement.

If you wish to send in 2 months, September theme is florals.

You are not required to, some of our ladies have chosen to send in multiply months, to save on the postage.

Good luck each and every one of you.

meanmom 08-03-2013 03:18 AM

Welcome to our newbies, we are a good group here. Good luck and healthy eating. Yes Cindy we need to repeat the batiks. They seem to be pretty popular. I know I fought for them.
I finished the top of the quilt I am making for my grandson last night. I am working on the back. I am on a fabric diet too so I am piecing the back. I quit buying backs for my quilts. I piece something from my stash. I have it most of the way pieced. I need to search for a little bit more fabric to finish it.
DH is requesting blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Not sure I feel like it but I do have some buttermilk to use up. Still thinking about it.

lwbuchholz 08-03-2013 03:44 AM

I hadn't seen this before so I will join in. I sure need to loose weight and I am addicted to fabric. What a good incentive!!
Lynda

Rules are simple, have fun, post weekly, yes you can share your loss anytime you want. It is up to you to use the blog area, I have not used the blog area. Several have used other fitness sites that have tracking and calories, one is my fitness pal.

We have been doing this for several years, so you can go back and look at past threads if you like and have time.

Everyone has bad day, good days, emotional days........need prayers at times. Feel free to share what you like. Anyone is welcome to join in on the chat.......will give you some encouragement when needed.

Like last month, one person discovered she was not losing due to eating too few calories and got help and is now losing after increasing her calorie intake for the day.

mona202 08-03-2013 11:19 AM

I just saw this today! Can I be eligible?

Yes you are still eligible to sign up for the prize. Send me a PM for mailing info of where to send the FQ. Welcome to our group

Vanogay 08-03-2013 12:42 PM

Wow, it is so nice to see so many new people joining our group. Think of all the weight we're losing - add them up and we've lost a whole person - or two or three. I'll have to go back and redo some of our old Tuesday tips - to help them out and refresh all our minds. Here's one that comes to mind and is a mid-week reminder for a Satisfying Saturday - use a smaller plate for your main meal. The normal serving on that plate will look larger to your mind's eye and you will feel fuller faster. Till Tuesday ...

createfourpaws 08-03-2013 08:22 PM

OurJuly winner for the batik pot is........

meanmom with 7.3 lbs lost for July. Congrats.

Pam H 08-03-2013 08:50 PM

I'm in for August.
Congrats Pat! All that cycling paid off.
It's great to have so many new people joining
I am quilting a top I made a few years ago. It is for a wedding a week from today. Looks like I don't have anything in my stash to use for binding. That stinks. I was hoping to use the backing fabric for a self binding but it doesn't look good. For the quilting I am using my walking foot and making curvy lines. It is fun and fast plus I really like the way it looks. I will be doing this type of quilting again. I'll post a pic when I get it finished.

Congrats, Meanmom! Yes, your cycling really paid off.

Confession of an emotional eater: I've had a really stressful couple of days. Can you say teenager??? After a particularly stressful event I came home and made homemade brownies. I had not planned on making brownies that day. I then proceeded to eat about a fifth of the pan and added a (small) Dr. Pepper for good measure. I had just gone to yoga but my whole body ached and my back was tightening up, from the base of my skull to my tailbone. Usually, yoga helps my back and stress level tremendously. But that day I was just worse and worse after class was over. We did carry out for dinner that night (no way could I face cooking) and I got a salad. I didn't check the fat and calories, but in my mind at least I wasn't continuing the downfall.

createfourpaws 08-04-2013 05:45 AM

Stress and teenagers add a lot to us and can make us loss control. You just have to remember where you want to be and how we are going to get there.

Atleast you didn't eat the whole pan of brownies which I have done in the past.

meanmom 08-04-2013 05:52 AM

Thanks everyone. Yes the cycling has finally paid off. I am doing 80 to 100 miles a week in my spinning class, depending on how many times I go. I have had to adjust my calories up since I am burning so many. I was really getting depressed at not losing with all of my hard work. I really messed with my mind having to add so many calories. It worked. The batiks were also a huge incentive. I love batiks. My DS is here from Japan for the month and I have been having to cook all of his favorites and he keeps ordering late night pizza and other goodies.
Welcome to all the newbies. This is a good group. Lots of support and good ideas. Good luck and healthy eating.
