Beware of this online company!

I tried to order some "reasonably priced" items from an online company called Madam Sew. My card was rejected by my bank and a hold put on my account. I contacted my bank and was told this company was somewhere in Iceland and was on their fraud alert list so they stopped transaction. Thank goodness for my bank's alertness!

I don't buy online from any company that doesn't have a big online presence or history of stability. Many times getting the cheapest price isn't always the best bargain.

I recently ordered two samples of skin care products for $4.98 each. Samples arrived and I was not happy with them. Later the next month, I was billed $94 and $85 for two more bottles. Called credit card company and they removed charges right away, then the product arrived in mail. DH had to pay almost $4 in shipping. Oh well, I'm sure my DIL will use it.

I try to support my LQS. I ordered a couple items yesterday through them. I don't need the items right away and that's ok. One shop is going out of business (retiring) so it's hurting some of the others. I told thm to hang in there. they will be busier than ever and may need to add more hours. I found there what I couldnt' find elsewhere and often do. I also like to touch and feel. When they cut the fabric they open all the way to check for blemishes. Sweet people.

I once ordered ""sleep bras" from a mail order, well known company, and while the bras were fine, I had paid with my credit card. Two months later a charge for over $100 appeared on my statement and was identified as "shipping and handling" from the same company as the bras! Now, I never use mail order except for companies that go through PayPal. They fight the criminals for me.

With the help of my bank, I set up a second checking/debit card account that I only use for shopping. I go online, check out what I want to buy, go into my online banking and transfer the appropriate amount of $$ from regular checking to this 'shopping' account, then go back to the shopping site and order.

There is rarely more than $5-10 extra in my 'shopping' account at any given time so if anyone tries to hack it like in these examples, they can't get much! The secondary benefit to shopping this way is that it takes a few extra steps, which makes me think about whether I really want to buy the item.
