Hello, I am feeling a little low these days. In law issues, friend issues, maybe my fault, maybe not. My New Years Resolution was to destress for the coming year and not let so many things bother me or interfere with my life. Well the first few weeks of the new year have been worse than the last year.

I am looking for a book of maybe inspiration or self confidence, self peace type book.

Any suggestions? Thanks everyone!

Wish I could help but I am at a loss. Just keep your hands busy--that helps.

A friend gave me this book, when I had cancer, and was going thru a divorce, and losing my job, all at the same time. It really touched on all those issues and more

Hope your spirits are lifted. I've learned that it's not what happens to us that matters; it's how we handle the things that come our way that will make a difference.

I love those books that have daily readings. A lot of mine are from Alanon but there are many others. I have one I love by Melody Beattie. I read in the morning and it's a good way to start my day.
You can find them in any bookstore :)

God on a Harley

The Five People you meet in heaven
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...meet+in+heaven

Both are short very easy reads and sound like they may just be the chicken soup for the soul you need right now. Especially the first one.

The book I mentioned by Melody Beattie is called The Language of Letting Go. Sounds like a good book for you by what you wrote :)
Her daily readings are filled with living a peaceful life, which I am striving for.

The library probably has this one for you:
The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale

A classic.

I am sorry to hear you are feeling low. When you have read all the self help books etc, read some Janet Evanovitch books. She always raises my spirits!

Max Lucado is good author for this type of thing. I have found several of his books helpful. Light, easy read. Sorry I can't remember any specific titles at the moment.

And Joyce Meyer also has some great ones. Battlefield of the Mind is one that pops out, but there are lots of them. She's got a website where you can listen to audio from her too. She has helped me thru many a bad day/week/month.

I'm sorry that you're having a hard time right now. I should be able to recommend a book (I am a librarian) but you've gotten lots of good ones already. Know that there are lots of us here thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way. This board was wonderful for me when my mom passed away. When I was able, I posted one quick note and immediately got prayers, kind words, and PM's from several people. Stay tuned and best wishes.

I found that in additional to reading, I journal. I just write and write and don't thinks about what it is or grammer or puncuation. I also breath....This might help in addition to reading. I'm adding you to my prayer list.

i don't have a book per se but when I'm down I like to read the Psalms. Especially Psalm 34:18 "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

ShowMama 01-10-2011 08:52 AM

The "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books are really great.
