Okay. I am suppose to be working but I cannot get this off my mind. It is driving me crazy and I need your help so I can go back to work with thinking about this problem all day.

I started working on the bow tuck purse yesterday. Making the square in the bottom corner of the lining and the outer bag on both sides was easy. My problem and mess up is this:

I literally folded the side to the botton and then sewed on the line. After doing this to both the lining and the outer bag, I tried to flip the lining inside out. The bottom of the liner nor the outer bag comes out right.

After seeing the tutorial on here, I realized my mistake. I was suppose to open the material and line the marks together, sew and then cut.

Can I fix my mistake or do I need to scrap it? Please help me return to work.

Did you cut it after you sewed it? If you didn't I would think you could remove the thread and start over - I know if I didn't have the tutorial on this board I would not have been able to make the bow tuck bag.

Unfortunately, I did cut all four pieces.

Is there anyway to fix my mess up other than trying to sew the pieces back together (I wish)?

i don't really understand what you are saying
if you flatten the side seam down to the bottom seam and sew staright across (i think it would be about 2 inches from the point) it should have worked
can you explain better what you did or didn't do?

I did not flatten the side seam. I took the side and just folded it down to meet the bottom.

Does that make sense? I will try to find a cord and take a picture of what I mean and upload it around lunch.

I think you could correct it, but it would make the bag alot shorter if you went back in and cut that out and redrew the squares and did it correctly.

I'm thinking you'd probably take about 3 inches or more off the height of the bag. That is if I understand what you actually did.

The least you can do is take it apart and unsew the area to see what you have to work with. You might be able to cut off where you messed up and add more fabric to the bottom of the outside and lining pieces and start over. It won't be as obvious with the lining because the pockets will hide the added piece. You could even do something decorative with the added seam on the outside of the bag, however most of it will end up being at the bottom and base of the bag.

Give it a try, as long as you have the extra fabric.

Posting a pic if you can find that cord would definately be ideal, having a true visual of whats going on would really help in understanding exactly whats going on. There are lots of bag makers on the board so Im sure you can get direction from here. Im having a hard time getting it straight in my mind what you did.

Here are the pics that I made using paper as a stand in for the lining since I am at work.

1st Pic - Full picture of the paper depicting as the lining
2nd Pic - Square template drawn on the botton corners of the lining
3rd Pic - Brought the side to the bottom aligning the markings of the template
4th Pic - Unfolded the paper to show how I did the folding
5th Pic - I sewed on the square template black line and cut 1/2" from the sewing line
6th Pic - Unfolded the paper to show the cut.

I hope this helps even with it being paper instead of the fabric.

from that bottom picture - I think you would have to add a swatch of fabric to cover the hole - I really rely on everyone's knowledge here - so I am not an expert but I do think it will take additional fabric to cover it up.

Just a quick update. After my meeting last night, I came home and seam ripped the bottom corners where I sewed them. Then I unfolded them and flattened them the correct way to see the damage. To my surprise and relied, it worked out perfectly. The portion I cut off was correct.

I will try to finish it tomorrow night because I have another meeting tonight after work. Here's a sneak preview of the unfinished bag.
