Bread day

Baking bread today. The house smells wonderful. I should do it more often.

Nothing like that smell, is there?

I'm planning to bake some this weekend. We are having a "cold" spell right now so fresh bread will be awesome! Enjoy yours today! :)

Oh, Yuuuuummmmm. It is too hot here to bake. Wished I had some fresh bakes bread.

When my kids were little and I was young and energetic I baked 6 loaves of bread at a time, every week. There is nothing better than hot bread with real butter and homemade strawberry jam. Of course if you cut a loaf hot it all gets eaten.

I love bread fresh from the oven.

I love fresh baked bread too. I like making it but I try not to do it often because I can't resist eating it.

Yes, if I bake bread when everyone is home, I either have to plan on it being eaten right away or I have to make 2 loaves. I'm pretty sure that homemade, fresh-baked bread is one of the reasons my husband married me. lol.

That reminds me... I need to find & drag out my bread machine. I got it for a gift several years ago & thought "Oh, here's another funky gadget I'll never use". But I gave it a try & guess what? I loved it! I like using both the bread mixes you can get & also just doing it from scratch! But when we moved into this house, it got put up & quite honestly, I hadn't thought of it in eons. Now I'm on a mission to find that!

When I was a stay at home Mom - over 25 years ago I went through a spell of baking homemade bread for us five. I love it but, now I make cinnamon rolls at Christmas time. I love it, hot slathered with butter. I love the rolls also. Made from watching my Mom make them many years ago.

DH bakes all of our bread. When I started my last real job about 20 years ago, one of the gals was talking up her wonderful bread machine. I had to have one. I baked bread in it proubly twice. My husband took up the challange. Over the years he has modified the recipe so that now he mixes 3 loaves and bakes in the oven. This makes a better shape loaf. We have gone through 3 or 5 machines. The first we bought new but the others we bought at Good Will. Our gs thought we bought them at Great Wheels store. He liked to go there with us. We always have home baked bread in the house. Once the newnest wears off you can resist overeating.

Ooooooh, I can smell it from here. Thanks.

Quiltlady330 06-02-2012 11:59 AM

I agree. There's nothing quite like the smell of fresh baking bread.

Ccorazone 06-02-2012 12:57 PM

When I was growing up, we lived close to a Mrs. Baird's bakery. When the wind was right we go to smell fresh baked bread all day long. YuMMMMM.

Jammin' Jane 06-02-2012 02:20 PM

Fresh bread...cinnamon rolls...my mouth is watering for some!!! :)

tenngal 06-03-2012 11:01 AM

I think some people just have the "right touch". I've had 5 breadmakers - all different brands ending with the $150 Cuisinart my hubby bought and I still can't get a decent loaf. I've used recipes from the book, friends, relatives and online - none were good - at least to me. It is very hard to knead bread with arthritic hands, so I guess I'll just keep buying it from the store - even though it has no taste.

Save me the crusts please lol.
