My organization for adults with disabilites has been invited to participate in a storefront window decorating event over the holiday season.

We are at the brainstorming process. We have 1 day to install our "themed" window. We have to showcase the holiday season but can represent our organization as we want.

Most of our folks are wheelchair bound. So far we've come up with wheelchair sledding, skiing, sleigh riding and elves in wheelchairs.

I know how creative quilters are--anyone have any great ideas??

We thought having an I Spy game might make the display more interactive and a Christmas tree was the easiest thing we could decorate for the game.

Of course, a quilt has to be in there too and my co-worker is a stained glass artist--- :lol:

You could tuck the "I Spy" items amongst the other displays, too... Put a sign in the window letting them know that an I Spy game is going on...

Some of the I Spy items could be pictures of wheelchair bound people doing various things that some people would think can't be done....maybe in a cute christmas themed frame?

Maybe make snow on the ground under tree, with a snowman in a wheelchair, and animals gathered round? After all, a snowman does not have legs. How else is he expected to get around. He should be your mascot! :lol:

I wonder if there are angels for the tree topper that have disabilities? Wheelchair, walker, white cane......... it kind of depends on the disabilities you are representing.

If you can, I think it would be nice to depict able bodied children playing with disabled children. Just a little reminder for folks to look past the disability.

I see your ideas for representing many recreational activities that can be enjoyed from a wheelchair. How about showing a job that can be done from a wheelchair. For example, if you show a bunch of people skiing or sledding, maybe there could be a hot chocolate stand ran by a wheelchair bound person.

OK enough of my random thoughts. I'm sure you will get many great ideas and do a wonderful display. Don't forget we like pictures!

lol, this ain't my thread, but Lisa, I like your ideas. My oldest daughter has cerebral palsy and was in a wheel chair for the first five years of her life. She has always been very outgoing, has held a job doing taxes, and now has two very rambunctious kids.
I taught her she could do anything, just might have to find a different way than some, but just as meaningful.
Curious, quiltwoman? what kind of store is the display going to be in?

All of the displays will be in empty storefronts that are currently for lease.
It's part of the city's Festival of Lights display. We are vying for a storefront window with electricity.

As to a theme: I always come up with some 'cheesy' ideas, and then somewhere in the midst of the swiss and mozzarella, I'll get something usable, lol:
my pea brain just saw this display with all the abled and the disadvantaged and said: Have a Merry, Chair-y Christmas, lol!
ok, what I think is funny or cute, is not to some ppl. So take me with a grain of salt and a chuckle, maybe :lol:

of course you could also consider an assortment of mice, :mrgreen: ducks, monkeys, kittens, puppies,....wearing the outfits.
Instead of people, it could all be animals, and some in wheelchairs.
