Coming to Texas

Hope to come to Texas soon - I am very excited !!!! and will need to fly into Houston and drive to Dallas. Can anyone recommend a comfortable - but reasonably priced hotel/motel to stay near the I 45 as we drive up. Due to land in Houston about 4.00 in the afternoon. I was looking at a Motel6 at Huntsville ? Anyone know of it please ? Thanks for any help.

there is also one in Conroe, before Huntsville. at 820 Interstate 45, 936-760-4003. my son lives in Conroe but I've not lived in Texas for 20 yrs so I can't tell you a great deal. I"m sure others will pop in here soon.

I-45 is a major highway/freeway, so it will have lots of hotels/motels on your route, but since Texas is big, there will be areas without any. If you go past Huntsville, your choices will be less as there are more small towns for a long way. Also, a really interesting gasoline station to stop is "Buccee's". They have a wide variety of foods, "Texana" type souveniers and the cleanest restrooms you have ever seen. I do not remember exactly where around Huntsville, but there be plenty of signs and it will be on your right, so it will be convenient to exit and stop. Plan to stop there!!! Which airport will you be flying into, either Hobby (south side of Houston) or IAH (north side of Houston)? How long will you have been flying when you reach Houston? I am sure you will be too tired to go far, but Dallas is only about a 4 hour trip north on I-45. Also, you will be arriving just about in time to be involved in very heavy commuter traffic. But, if you land at IAH, you will be ahead of much of the traffic. We live just about 15 miles west of I-45, in Tomball, Texas. Welcome to Texas!

Use your computer and google motels along I45 in Spring, Oak Ridge North, Shenandoah, The Woodlands, and Conroe, Texas, and use google map or mapquest to see the areas on I45 north of Bush IA -- you might want to eat in the airport area since you will be going north on I45 during heavy traffic times -- good luck and enjoy your visit

If you drive up to Austin, I would be more than happy to let you stay at my place - free of charge. I am located between Houston and Dallas, just right outside of Austin city limits. It would be a little over a 3 hour drive to Dallas. My husband and I don't have any children at home and we have 1 cat. (I think) we are extremely nice people.

I would suggest that you stay at La Quinta Inn Huntsville, TX - 124 I-45 North. It cost a few dollars more, but is clean and comfortable. Motel6 in Huntsville is a little trashy.

You can book online at Orbitz, Hotels.com, etc.

Just an FYI, there is construction on 45 past Huntsville, somewhere around Centerville. Oh, and the Buckees is right past Huntsville before Centerville. Kind of a big thing here in Texas. You must stop there.

We make the trip to the Dallas area a few times a year.

I hope you enjoy your visit!

How I agree - we love Texas so much - that is why we want to come back !!! Thank you very much - we have flights confirmed to Houston - but are standing by for a flight direct to Dallas - which is what we ideally want as our friends live near the airport.
Thanks again for any further info !
Regards, Dot.
