This is not quilt related. I have a dress that I really love. It is getting old and worn. I would love to make a pattern from the dress. Could anyone give me a link that has a video that shows how to do this procedure?

No link , but have you thought about taking the dress apart , using either paper or muslin trace out the pieces and make your own pattern ?

That is what I was going to suggest. Maybe stay stitch around the edges too after taking it apart, especially if any are bias cuts, before you handle it too much.

Take the dress apart, trace it out, but remember to add seam allowance.

Use brown paper so the pieces are a little more traceable when you go to cut out the fabric.

As the others have said, carefully take the dress apart. I would make some notes and take pictures before you start and as you go along. When the pieces are taken apart, you can lightly starch them to help them hold their shape to make tracing a bit easier. And, yes, remember to add seam allowances and make sure you whatever seam allowance you decide on that it is the same on all the pieces. You should generally use somewhere between 3/8 and 5/8 seam allowance for clothing. Good luck!

and add a few matching notches around neck sleeves, waist area, etc. You will need to know where to sew seams together. Front and backs, and gathering areas need to be matched. I make my marks on the garment before taking it apart. Carol

I was going to suggest taking it apart and use those pieces to make pattern.

The Clotilde catalog and website has a book to do just that.
Item #154019, price is $13.98 says you can copy any garment.

I have done this ... more than once ... it works very well just remember to make marks for lining up curves or making darts and it goes together smoothly, then you can make as many of them as you want :D

I would have no idea how to do it, but this is an interesting thread.
