I apologize for asking on the quilting section but could not see where else to post.
I have a UTI. Does anyone know of home remedies to help till I can call the doctor tomorrow? Thank you in advance! |
drink a lot of water, preferably bottled spring water that you know has no bacteria in it. Do see your doctor though ASAP because it can be very serious.
cranberry juice, drink a lot of it too!
Cranberry juice is helpful
Yep, cranberry juice.
Like others have suggested...plenty of fluids. UTI's can really make you feel bad so you might want to arrange to have someone take you to the Doctor's office tomorrow, just in case you don't feel like driving. Be sure to take all the antibiotics you are prescribed, even if you feel better long before they are gone. I hope you feel better very soon.♥

4th that..cranberry
All great advice, if you can't get hold of cranberry juice try 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in a glass of water (about 8 oz of water). You might try gently washing the area in cool water (no soap) after each bathroom trip. Please get to your Dr asap...as mentioned this can have some quite nasty consequences if left untreated.
No home remedy will do much in a day. Thank goodness you can get meds tomorrow.
Thank you so much everyone! I do have some cranberry juice. It does say it is 27% juice. Is that the norm?
make sure it is juice and not "cocktail" - most cranberry products have a lot of sugar (high fructose corn syrup) in them.

It should be 100% juice with no sugar added. There are brands out there that sweeten the taste with a bit of apple juice mixed so that it is not so sour (instead of sugar, which only makes matters worse). Also, you can take cranberry pills - all natural. But, the problem with these things is that, once you have a UTI, they really will not help much at all. Lots of water actually helps to flush the urethra and makes it a tiny bit less painful to go to the bathroom. Outside of that, the best thing is to get in to see the doctor as soon as possible. They can even give you medication not only for the UTI but something that actually lessens the pain in that area. Though it will discolor your urine. loll. But hey, it helps.
No that's cranberry juice drink. Cranberry juice is a wonderful preventative but apple cider vinegar (1-2 tablespoons 4-5 tImes a day in apple or other NON citrus juice) works wonders.
I had quite forgotten about apple cider vinegar. It is very good for your health even without an infection. But, still, it would really depend on how bad the infection has set in. It can cause kidney problems. Pain in the kidney areas or a fever ... if you have any of those symptoms, do not even waste time with trying a home remedy, you need to get seen by a doctor quickly.
How about lemons? They are acidic and that is what cranberry juice is. I have a friend that was told to eat one lemon per day and it would keep the kidney stones away. Same principal, keep the urine acidic and the bacteria can't tolerate that environment.
All of the obove and I would add you can get a product at walmart or any pharmcay called AZO but you can get the generic like walmart brand. It works wonders and it is for the pain. My daughter bought the generic at dollar general it is about 3 dollars. Hope you feel better. Marilyn
You can also get AZO Standard over the counter...
•Provides fast, maximum strength OTC relief of urinary pain, burning, urgency and frequency. |
you can but cranbury capsules at walmart. I had bladder suegery Friday and it sure is helping me.
Cranberry juice, the highest concentration you can get. Actually there's an anti-spasmodic for the bladder which turns the urine bright orange which will give pain relief but not cure the infection. It's over-the-counter. Pyridium, Azo-Standard, Uromide are trade names. The chemical short name is phenazopyridine hydrochloride. Not advising or prescribing for you, just saying it exists OTC.
A teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of water. Then drink some cranberry juice
Drink 100 percent or as close as you can get cranberry juice.
Here in Australia you can get a product from the chemist call Ural, which is a sachet and makes a fizzy drink. Don't know if you have it there but it's helped me before and I haven't even had to go to the doctor. Guess it depends on how bad the infection is though
My husband stated do not do more than 3, 1/2 teaspoon in 24 hrs. in a glass of water. Then take vit. c. for prevention after your done with the antibiotic.I take 1000mg a day .
I take cranberry pills from Wal-mart. I have problems all the time in that area.
Cranberry juice, make sure it doesn't have any added sugars or high fructose corn syrup. Also lots of water. I can usually feel a UTI when in it's infant stages by either sight or smell - sorry if this is TMI - but ... if my urine is bright yellow or orange, or if it has a strong odor - I know a UTI is starting and I hit the cran juice and water pronto.
If you are already suffering any pain, or have a problem urinating (feels you have to but not much happens), then you should see a doc for meds. |
Some stores carry the over the counter purple pill that helps with the pan turns your pee orange but it will "help" till you get to dr

Uristat will stop the burning--available OTC at your pharmacy. Sorry. UTIs are miserable.
an OTC called Cystex, an antibacterial and painkiller, has worked for me
Cranberry juice!!
I second the vote for the AZO. It's been a life saver on wkends and nites when I've felt the need to urinate, but just couldn't. Relief in about 20 minutes.
For future reference. I keep AZO or Uricalm on hand. They numb the bladder and stop the pain until you can get to the Dr. They are what the Dr. wil prescribe for the pain but are about 1/2 the prescription strength but they will work. Turns your urine bright orange.
drink cranberry juice and lots of water tylenol for pain and temp.
I get those frequently & keep "AZO" pills on hand to take till Dr. can prescribe anti-biotic.
Get better soooooon!!!! |
Cranberry JUice!!!!
Baking soda and water is what my friend swears by
One urinary tract infection home treatment often recommended is baking soda. According to suggestions, simply mix about half a teaspoon of baking soda to 8 ounces of water and it will work effectively as a UTI cure. |
Thank you all! I did get antibiotics and Azo. And, for some reason, I could not find cranberry juice! All I can find is the cocktail stuff.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol, drink cranberry juice or get cranberry extract pills (it's the active ingredient pyridium that you want) and there is a over-the-counter product called AZO that may work if it ain't too far gone.
Careful both types of pills create glow-in-the dark urine and they both have major stain potential. so wear the old undies. Also, as much as it may hurt, don't hold it in. Void when you feel it. I usually snuggle with a hot water bottle and a quilt. Hope you can get it under control. |
I have a friend that told me to start drinking black hot tea, no sugar. I had UTI so bad this last winter I was passing blood, ended up having to have two shots and lots of anti biotics, drink lots of water, my urologist told me to save my money on the cranberry juice, just water, alot there is azo pills you can get at the drugstore, they make you pea red but help relieve the pain. hope you get some relief, I would say if it gets that bad to go to the emergency room. The pain is terrible
