Bummer  Checked my bank account statements and noticed my credit card was maxed out. The balance should have been zero. Six new transactions that I new NOTHING about in the past week.

Dashed down to the bank (lucky it was my day off) and filled in a fraudulent transactions form.

The up-side is, because I use this particular credit card for phone and on-line transactions only, I have a maximum limit of $A500 on it. Once the transactions have been checked I will get my money reimbursed.

The down-side is, unless I make a deposit on my current card I am maxed out until I am reimbursed, which could take 8 - 12 weeks.

I would want them to issue a new card with a new acct number anyway. Obviously, someone else has this one, and you don't need them to continue to use it. Good thing you noticed when you did.

That is just horrible. I wonder how they got a hold of it.

In some cases they can steal your info from a transaction site or as my bank thinks in this case, they just go through random numbers until they hit on a combination that works.

The transactions were supposedly for airfares and accommodation. I hope I had a good holiday :!:

So sorry you have to go through this. My banker told me about opening a seperate checking account only for online purchases. We had 3 credit card numbers stolen in 18 months. We only use this account to buy stuff. Or we get visa giftcards and use them on paypal ect. They work just fine don't let paypal tell you you cannot use them just make sure you can access the card online. Jade

Listen, there is a new problem with CC's, esp. if you use them online and "store" the info on the website of the company you buy from frequently.
Hackers can get in and use your CC to buy something for themselves.
Never let a website "store" your CC info.

There was a big discussion about this on the ebay message boards a while back. Mr. A noticed a charge on his CC that he had stored at the WM website. Found out it went to Mr. B, who bought the item online (on ebay) from Mr.C.
Looked at Mr. C's auctions, they were all for new items from WM, all said, this item will be shipped to your address but will have someone else's name on the label (not your name). Called the triangulation scam, scammer ends up with the money and someone else is stuck with the stolen merchandise.

I think I heard of a credit card you can get that can be used one time and one time only. Seems to me that you have to get it from your bank. After identity theft, I now buy and pay with US Postal Money Orders only.

I did get my money back from the credit card company, but it was a hassel. Seems some young punk bought about 300 dollars worth of electronic stuff, and when that went through ( I was on vacation in another state) they tried to buy a computer on the TV shopping channel..QVC or something like that. The TV channel could not reach me so refused the charge, and sent me a letter about it, which arrived after I got home.

This is a card that I only use on-line and it doesn't link to any of my other accounts. I most often use Paypal also. I am a very careful computer user when it comes to on-line transactions. My current card has been destroyed and I will be issued with a new one.

These transactions were www.airarabia.com.,sharjah.

Some banks will let you link a savings account to your checking account. Only keep $5 in it to keep it open. You can get a "debit only" card to use with the savings account.
You can then transfer (online) however much your online purchase is, from checking to this savings account.
If someone does try to use this card #, there isn't any money in the account, so the debit transaction will not go through.

It is VERY important that it be a DEBIT Card only. A debit/credit card may go through, and you could end up having to go through canceling the charge and getting the NSF fees waived, like in a credit card transaction.
