Went to a LQS (not so local tho - 90 miles away) today - only got a few pieces of batik - and when I had it cut I said I didn't have a quilt in mind. So the guy (owner) says "oh for your stash"..
then he told this story - no clue if it's true - but it is cute...

A young wife would come in and buy fabric from them, and had gotten a machine - her husband finished college and landed a job but they would have to move. They found a small place - apparently very small, because the husband told her that she couldn't take her stash to the new place  :x

So she used her fabric to wrap all her dishes and anything else that needed cushioning - and didn't have enough - so had to come in to the store to get more! 8-)

Wouldn't you have loved to be a fly on the wall when they got all moved and her stash magically appeared!? :D

Fortunately my DH would never ever even think of saying such a thing - after all, he's the one who drove today! http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-love010.gif

Women are resourceful! Why waste newspaper to wrap the dishes? That is so cute.

AND, when unpacking the dishes you don't have to wash the newsprint ink off--just put them away. I haven't moved since I started quilting, I always used my towels and washcloths for packing dishes in. This is a good idea if I should ever move again.

Love it!
I also heard of wrapping gifts in fabric instead of paper for the person who loves fabric :D

That's a great story. True or not I love the way she worked that out.

What a stupid man. Didn't he know she was going to have to buy MORE after they moved? Some guys have no money smarts. I am so glad I have a keeper now that I have educated him! When I wanted my first sewing machine, his response was, "Why? You never sew." Well, duh. So I bought my own, but it was cheap and the whole bobbin case kept popping out while I was sewing. Not good. So I wanted a nicer machine and got the same question. "Why? You hardly sew with the one you have." True, but only because it cost me $60 every time I made anything because the darn thing had to go back to the shop. My dad finally helped me out by talking about proper tools for the job and all that. Plus he paid half. Now DH knows and sometimes goes over the top getting me tools. Gotta love it!
