Here are pictures of my garden, before and after the storm that hit Tuesday night in Norman, Oklahoma. It's so sad. I don't know whether to go ahead and try to replant or just clear the land for next year.

Garden before - hearty plants

Beautiful blooms

Oh No!! I am so sorry :( (((HUGS)))

nativetexan 06-16-2011 07:28 AM

oh my goodness! will they still produce??? well I guess not since the yellow blossoms are gone. so sorry. my hubby is the gardener here.

bearisgray 06-16-2011 07:28 AM

That is sad -

I'm not sure how much different the seasons are where you are located from southern MN -

I think there would be time for some of these to mature if you replanted (from seeds) now:

cucumbers
zucchini
green beans
beets
carrots - they are quite frost resistant
radishes

although some of these are less than thrilled about being in really hot weather (radishes)

early varieties of cantaloupe

are there any tomato plants left at any of the greenhouses?

alikat110 06-16-2011 07:29 AM

too sad!

MellieKQuilter 06-16-2011 07:31 AM

:(

Ramona Byrd 06-16-2011 07:31 AM

Don't give up, looks to me like some of those will come back.
If it were my garden, I'd let what is there stay, plant some smaller stuff in between them, and even some small types of corn. I LIKE corn!!

I think you have time to get crops in if you hunt for short season ones.

Good luck, and it's good that you are still safe.

QuiltnNan 06-16-2011 07:32 AM

how awful!

amyjo 06-16-2011 07:50 AM

so sorry about your garden. try some short season plants. I think some of those in the pic might come back since it didn't all get taken down. Glad you are safe tho.

Ditto here.
Weather is really doing a number on a lot of people. At least you are ok. All the best.

Rose Cactus 06-16-2011 07:57 AM

Thats trrrible! If you can get more plants you could still have a fall garden.

melslove 06-16-2011 08:02 AM

Very sad indeed, i know how much work goes into having a garden :(

Kim Bohannon 06-16-2011 08:04 AM

oh wow! that is just aweful! If you think there is enough time, I would definately replant
your garden was beautiful

lyndad 06-16-2011 08:23 AM

How devastating, I know how much hard work went into your garden, I'm not sure about replanting.

sewcrafty 06-16-2011 08:53 AM

Oh my gosh!!! That's horrible, soooo sorry! I wouldn't give up, them them a couple of weeks and see what happens. Long growing season ahead yet.

HUGS

MrsM 06-16-2011 09:07 AM

I never imagined the after photos to be so bad. I am so sorry. We also have a garden. I think I would replant and keep my fingers crossed. Good luck!

redkimba 06-16-2011 09:21 AM

{{hugs}} That's a horrible thing to do.

Maybe you can see if there's something you can plant in that space.

Jim's Gem 06-16-2011 09:23 AM

I'm sorry!! I hope some of them come back for you!!!!

amazon 06-16-2011 09:29 AM

OMGoodness! That is terrible. I think you could definitely replant around what survived. You might give it a week to see if any of it bounces back.

Yankee 06-16-2011 10:47 AM

Give it a shot. My mother used to say "It never hurts to try".

pjaco 06-16-2011 10:55 AM

So Sorry !! My son & his family live right off rock creek in Norman and the same happened to DIL garden she worked so hard on. Also neighbors tree fell on their houset too, I think insurance is going to put a new roof on it. My son took some pics until he thought it was turning into a tornado, then he shut the door. Good think it wasn't any worse.

cinnya 06-16-2011 11:02 AM

I am so sorry, you all got the worst of the storm. Was that from the hail or the wind??
We had the wind here,no hail though. It did some damage in Elgin but we were lucky this time.

ashlett 06-16-2011 11:34 AM

Oh thats such a shame, so sorry. Glad you are O.K. though.

debp33 06-16-2011 12:11 PM

Aw, so sad! I feel for you. I remember one August the neighbor's fence busted and their cows ate up all our rows and rows of corn.

I'd say you still might have some time to get some things back in the ground.

Tink's Mom 06-16-2011 12:15 PM

So sorry to see that!!! It has been so cold here that mine aren't really growing...but at least it isn't as awfyl as your storm damage...(((HUGS)))

Glenda m 06-16-2011 12:40 PM

So sorry this happened to you. We didn't plant this year, or I would try to share some plants with you. Just easier now a days to go to the farmers market here in town.

RatherB Quilting 06-16-2011 12:42 PM

Oh that IS sad. I am so sorry. :(

Floralfab 06-16-2011 12:46 PM

I'm sorry. Thats so sad. Try to keep your spirits up. (((hugs))))

montanajan 06-16-2011 01:04 PM

We garden too, so I know your disappointment. Our garden is still in baby stages - waiting for our weather to warm - very late this year. Still snow in the mountains we see from our land. I hope you can still reap something from the mess.

Gatormom3 06-16-2011 01:44 PM

Wow - soooooo sorry!!!

javin22 06-16-2011 01:44 PM

oh how sad. All that hard work and it is ruined.

maryb119 06-16-2011 02:11 PM

I think you would have time to replant. Your growing season is longer there.

Krystyna 06-17-2011 03:17 AM

Oh, how horrible! Just a thought ... plants are so resilient. It looks like they might have a little life left in them. Why not let them recover?

mcdaniel023 06-17-2011 03:21 AM

That is too bad. All that work. Maybe they might come back.

SueSew 06-17-2011 03:40 AM

I'm so sorry - to lose such healthy plants! - I say try again! Plenty of growing season left - good luck and better weather

PamB8s 06-17-2011 03:41 AM

Oh my goodness. So sorry. The weather this year has just been so destructive. We lost alot of hay due to straight line winds this year too.

jitkaau 06-17-2011 04:04 AM

I think you may have some luck with them if the weather stays OK for you - give it a try before digging in. All the best.

Dotsie 06-17-2011 04:07 AM

That is the joy of gardening, never give up. so sorry for you replace with something that grows fast.

piepatch 06-17-2011 04:15 AM

This is sad to see, and I am so sorry it happened, but I would plant again now! You obviously love to garden, so don't let the storm defeat you. It is not too late to plant some things, and maybe it would lift your spirits. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Yooper32 06-17-2011 04:16 AM

Is that hail damage or wind, or a combination of elements? Looks like a hoard of locusts came through. I feel for you. It is so sad to have such beautiful planting results and see them destroyed in a blink of an eye.
