My father's kitty loves to drink running water from the faucet.

Chasing Hawk 01-27-2010 12:59 AM

Our son's cat does.

Ninnie 01-27-2010 03:31 AM

That is just too cute!!!
I love that picture.

tlrnhi 01-27-2010 03:38 AM

Yep and Little Girl Cat thinks she's part dog. She has been drinking out of the toilet. EWWWWWWWWW.......

k3n 01-27-2010 04:07 AM

Hi Panda - my cousin's cat does that. She leaves the kitchen tap dripping the whole time for him! ppl visiting have to be told NOT to turn it off. I think it's a kind of primeval thing where they 'know' that running water is cleaner than standing water. :-D

BKinCO 01-27-2010 05:43 AM

Yep! She sure does!!! IN fact, even when the faucet is off she will sit there hoping for a drip.

We bought a drinking fountain for the animals thinking it would cure her of this habit, but nope! She still prefers it out of the faucet!

redkimba 01-27-2010 05:51 AM

Cici does this - she will sit on the counter & wait for me to turn it on for her. My other one, Inky, will drink out of the toilet...

Elisabrat 01-27-2010 06:04 AM

For 18 yrs. I now leave a trickle running at all times.

Elisabrat 01-27-2010 06:06 AM

Ok you have to check out this video, my cat drinks from faucets but this is the goofiest cat drinking from a faucet I have ever seen. I think THIS kitty wins the award for biggest fish out there!

kwhite 01-27-2010 06:07 AM

I haven't washed my hands alone in the bathroom since Boots showed up.

tlrnhi 01-27-2010 06:14 AM

I don't think I've gone to the bathroom alone in years!
Not since the girls were born or I've had cats, which I've had cats all my life lol

Me too! If I even look like I am going to the bathroom Molly races in, sits on the counter and makes her most 'dying of thirst, helpless kitty' impersonation!

dkabasketlady 01-27-2010 06:48 AM

No, my cats aren't allowed on the counters or tables, but the picture is so cute of your cat. I've had cats all my life. Mine are 17 yrs. and 12 yrs. old.

nativetexan 01-27-2010 08:12 AM

for a moment i thought that was his toothbrush in the pic!! cute. cats love running water. actually people do too, the sound of it is relaxing.

youme 01-27-2010 02:12 PM

Wow,I didn't imagine there would come up so many kitties that do the same as he does. I have hadsome kitties, but he is the only one who is not afraid of water.
It is funny to discover that we call this kind of cats American Short Haired here, I know you call them Domestic Short Haired, right? LOL

kwhite 01-27-2010 02:42 PM

I have terrible allergies, so all of the cats I have owned have gotten baths regularly. They learn to love them. BooBoo and now Boots will get into the shower with you. Lola hasn't quite gotten into it yet.

Missi 01-27-2010 02:50 PM

My cat started this habit when my faucet leaked in my apartment during college. I told the land lord and he didn't fix it, he paid the water bill and the cat loved the dripping faucet it was a win win situation. That was until I moved and won't let the faucet drip for her all day. I know I am a mean mean mean mom. She tells me all the time when I won't turn it on. It has been over a year but she will still beg and plead for me to turn the water on.

Her newest is to drink the bath water when I am taking a bath. She just moves the bubbles out of the way :)

pookie ookie 01-27-2010 03:10 PM

It's my boy cat's primary water source. Unfortunately since the boss lady cat died, he has to wait for a human to turn on the water. The late kitty would turn it on but never turned it off. He can open doors so he's not completely useless.

chris_quilts 01-27-2010 05:16 PM

I have one male cat, Jake, who will drink from a water or milk glass by dipping his paw into the glass and then licking off the liquid. We did have a cat who would drink from the running faucet but he would also drink from the bowl if he had to which was most of the time. My other male cat, Romeo, will drink from my coffee cup if it's cool enough and close to the top of the cup. I do cover that with a suacer usually but my DD doesn't always remember this so sometimes she doesn't even drink her coffee b/c Romeo got there first.

sewjoyce 01-27-2010 05:51 PM

Awwww, how cute! :D

tlrnhi 01-27-2010 06:11 PM

My Little Girl ALWAYS has to taste test what I am drinking. Doesn't matter what it is. I guess she needs to make sure that whatever mom is drinking is safe. lol
I've had paws, tails and little tongues in my drinks.
Now...for those of you thinking.....does she drink after the cat has done this? Well......hmmm.......what do you think? ;)

How can I type this with tears in my eyes from laughing?
That is truly the funniest cat's water enjoyment! One of my cats dips her paw into the water bowl and licks the water off. She does this several times -- dip and lick -- and then takes a drink directly from the bowl. I thought that was pretty funny til I saw this video.

RedGarnet222 01-28-2010 01:13 PM

My kitty (Sampson) used to do that when he was alive. And get in the shower with me. He loved water. He was quite the talker too. Well, my whole family has thier own little stories they still tell about him and what he did to or with them. LOL!

iowabelle 01-28-2010 01:28 PM

Both my cats prefer the faucet to the dish... but weren't interested in a fountain I put down for them.
The funny thing is that the boy cat drank out of the faucet first and taught the girl cat to do it too.
One of the first things I have to do in the morning is be sure to turn the water on for them, they're waiting for a drink!

crafteeone 01-28-2010 04:01 PM

oh yes, they like to get in the tub and the bathroom sink..

youme 01-28-2010 04:14 PM

All the cats we used to have were originally from Japan and they never did this. Is that because he is American Short Haired kind??LOL

two of two 01-28-2010 05:10 PM

YES My husbands cat does this ,when we married about a year i was always turning the water off, the he would cry (the cat not husband)

Shemjo 01-28-2010 05:20 PM

We haven't started this. My mother cat gets into the tub when it is almost empty and follows the water to the drain, lapping the tub dry!

iowabelle 01-28-2010 05:21 PM

Flower used to like to play in the bathtub too. Sometimes he'd take a toy, like one of those plastic balls with the bell in it, and dump it in there. It goes round and round quite nicely and it's hard to lose it in the bathtub!

Funny you would mention that because just this morning my DH said he was going to look for one for the same reason.

youme 01-28-2010 11:16 PM

Maybe cats are so clever that they know fresh running water tastes better.

QBeth 01-29-2010 08:47 AM

My cat Polly also like to drink from the faucet. She wouldn't get into the shower with me but, to be "with" me, she'd jump from the bathroom sink onto the top of the open door so she could see me over the shower doors! (She's also the one that could straight up the front of the refrigerator. Silly cat!)

LMAO!!!!!! Oh my goodness that is FUNNY!

sewNso 01-29-2010 10:51 AM

teri, glad you made it home okay. and yes, us moms, whether it's animals or kids, never get to go to the bathroom alone. and you ladies just wait, later on in yrs, then papa will say to you, "why don't you shut the door?" go figure.

sewmom 01-29-2010 12:57 PM

It's instinct-felines in the wild would drink from flowing streams. They still havetose instincts even though they are domesticated.

Jingle 01-29-2010 02:23 PM

My cat Midnight dips his paw into the water bowl and then lick it off his paw. A cat I use to have would tap the water bowl to get the water moving, then he would drink it.
I have another cat that likes to get into the bathtub - no water, sometimes he just lays there. The cats do not get on the kitchen counters and have never drank out of the faucet. Another of my cats likes to get on my lap while I use the toilet - if I forget to close the door. I will leave it open if no one is home.

sewnsewer2 01-29-2010 02:30 PM

My silly old kitty waits for DH to finish showering then practically runs him over and jumps in the shower when he opens the door! She just started doing that about 2 months ago.
