Has anyone ever made a duvet cover? I just got a new king-size bed and bought a down comforter to fit the bed - the comforter is white - I would like to make a duvet cover so I can wash the cover - does anyone know of a pattern or instructions. Thanks for helping.

It's almost time to take out the down comforter and put it on the bed. It is white and I've been thinking of doing this very thing, except that I would use the biggest blue flannel sheet I can find as a bottom, and I am thinking of making the top into crazy quilting that I've saved so long for. I have a stash of many patterns and tones/shades/tints of blue and want it wild.

I was just wondering about the weight, anyone else done this?

I have a doona (duvet) cover in progress, I basically just copied (very roughly) from an old worn out one....a simple one can be constructed quite easily, right sides together stitch around top and sides, turn right side out and neatly hem the bottom and use press studs for an easy fastener...or a zipper or if you are good at button holes (I am not and need more practice!) you can make the bottom piece longer and fold it up over the top and use big decorative buttons. It is really just a giant pillowcase....

Ramona, mine is pieced from remnants of all kinds (even a little velvet) and is not too heavy...I reckon almost anything could be put to use as long as it's washable.
