I'm so proud,my son just received his Eagle Scout rank. This from a kid who was in a den of one all during his Cub Scout years. He kept with it and enjoyed every minute of it.

Very nice. My son is a Sr Webelos and loves scouting.

BellaBoo 05-09-2011 06:01 PM

That is so fantastic! The young men who accomplish this goal are few and far between this day and age. He should be very proud! My DH is an Eagle Scout and he said it opened a lot of doors for him career wise.

Jennifer22206 05-09-2011 06:02 PM

I don't know what that means but it sounds great. :)

Leota 05-09-2011 06:08 PM

Congratulations to your son. He did a lot of work getting where he is. My late DH and both his brothers were all Eagle, and all were Scoutmasters. Our son worked hard with his best buddies to make Eagle. He is a go getter, as a couple of others were.

DH said often that should he get resumes from more than one young man for a job and all were more or less the same education, he would pick the one with the Eagle badge, since he knew that young man could stick to one goal and work till he had accomplished that job.

raedar63 05-09-2011 06:23 PM

Awesome, I was a scout leader for years, always wanted my boys to get eagle, wasn't to be. Congrats! You know about the fantastic scout fabric don't you :);)

Ramona Byrd 05-09-2011 06:27 PM

One other thing, while still in Scouts, he went to summer camp where he was a junior camp counselor, and at that time they had some volunteers from our AF base who taught the boys land and sea rescue.

So fast forward a handful of years, and the Navy tossed a lot of the guys into the ocean off Florida, and told then, "you rescue him and you rescue this other guy." Lots of them panicked, but my DS knew what to do, and did it immediately. That Boy Scout training helped him in the Navy.

I've had AF pilots tell me that when they were shot down in WW2, Vietnam and Korea, their Boy Scout training helped them survive living on the land much better than the training they received from the Air Force!!!

Congrats and when/if he goes military, the pin can be worn ON HIS UNIFORM, I think it is his dress uniform. Quite an accomplishment. Blessings, Ruth

Congrats and kudos to your son for reaching that goal.

My son is also an Eagle Scout...the only one from the small group of Cub Scouts he started out with to try for it and reach it.

bnlmom 05-09-2011 06:44 PM

Thanks for all the comments. I know about the scout fabric the top of his quilt is done, guess I better get on the ball to finish it!
--Jennifer22206-an Eagle Scout is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve.

From a mom of an Eagle, congratulations. They don't get that without a lot of parent support!!!

funquilter 05-09-2011 06:48 PM

Congrats from a Mom of 2 Eagles and the wife of Scoutmaster

You can say THAT again!! I was also a den mother, but really never intended to be one. I volunteered to "Help" the REAL Den Mother, but very shortly discovered that 30 minutes after getting pregnant she became too nauseous to continue working with 8 little boys. So, guess who got them for the next couple of years!
It was fun though, and the further it goes into the past, the more fun I had. I found some of my papers in decluttering recently, and remembered that one of the little boys was considered "slow" or slightly retarded. BUT his interest in his Cub books made him struggle to learn better reading, and his teacher hunted me up to ask what I'd done to help him so much. (We met at the school lunch room after school) I had boys ranging from "slow" to "gifted" which was also what my DS was, (and he was a pain at times, the little smart *%^&) but my favorite was the darling little slow one. When he had a hard time at something when at my home, he would go to our dear old Doberman, Kurt, and sit with his arms around the big dog till he felt better.
Sometimes down town now a huge young man will rush up and hug me, reminding me who he was and introducing me to his wife and family, then bored his poor kids while he remembered this and doing that way back then.
Yes, it was a real job, but well worth it.

Be sure to wear the little badge you got when he received his. You can also wear them as badges of honor with any other jewelry and show others how proud you are of your son. And keep the pictures taken at the Eagle ceremony.

My own DH, an avid photographer, took a lot of our DS at his ceremony, but discovered too late he was so excited that he'd forgotten to take the camera lens cover off!! Luckily DH's brother had taken some pictures, the only ones we have of that date.

ljptexas 05-10-2011 06:38 AM

That is so wonderful!!
Only wish more boys that started would go all the way!! My son got his Eagle after being in Scouts for 8 yrs.
He reached the top in 1984, he's now a Chiropractor.
He stayed, I think, with the same troop along.
The ultimate was getting to go to Philmont 2 times, even once he got to drive the RV & was assistant at 1 time.
I'm so proud of him!!!

Congratulations to him. I don't have any sons, but had been involved with the scouting program several years ago and know what an accomplishment this is. I know it took him many (many-many) hours. Kudo's to him. Aside from the personal satisfaction he is surely feeling, I'm told that it looks very good on job applications.

maryb119 05-10-2011 06:53 AM

Congratulations!! Eagle scout is an honor!! I have one son who is an Eagle scout and the second son is planning his ceremony for Eagle. It opens a lot of doors for them in the job world later on. Well done, mom!

Krystyna 05-10-2011 06:55 AM

Congratulations! As the proud mom of an Eagle Scout, I know how much work goes into it. What was his project? Mine did a food drive. Unfortunately the troop was at camp that week so he had a couple of friends from high school help out. He collected over ONE TON of food for our church's pantry.

bnlmom 05-10-2011 03:46 PM

His service project was a fix up of one of the city parks. He re-did 2 benches, cleared brush and refreshed the mulch around the playground equipment. He recruited a few of the younger guys in the troop to help.
He also went to Philmount and would love to go back.

How wonderful! My son also went to Philmont. He was a guide on the St. George Trek for three weeks when he was a seminarian. He loved it.

My son Adam is a year or so away from Eagle. I know how MUCH hard work that takes. Congrats to him...and did you make him a quilt???

bnlmom 05-11-2011 02:25 AM

The top of his quilt is done, but my sewing room is getting re-done...so it's still needs to be finished.
