hoping to cool some of you down as well as share a bit of hope.
here's a link to see the maps, but overall this winter looks to be a little colder than normal, a little/lot wetter than normal except for a good portion stretching from Montana to Mexico, and more snow than normal. Maybe the water table will be back where it belongs next spring if this is true! Anyone else counting down til winter??

I'm ready for fall but I hate the snow and ice in the winter.

ontheriver 08-08-2011 06:46 AM

Nooo. I hate winter or any kind of cold weather. I am a summer person no matter how hot is gets. I also hate my power bill in the winter, had one month last winter it was 1,200.00 because it takes so much to get me warm.

well I have an easy solution, make more quilts, or one just for you. My avatar is the one I just made for my bed to go on top of the 10 blankets from last year. Fatt batt and fleece backing. very warm which I didn't like while sewing it together to flip it.

MissSandra 08-08-2011 06:48 AM

I am more than ready for fall and winter!!!

janell2009 08-08-2011 06:52 AM

thanks for the interesting link

Charlee 08-08-2011 06:52 AM

The problem with a "heavy winter" is flooding in the spring.

I'm with Jeanann...I hate winter!! I'm the ultimate "Winter Wuss"!!

blueangel 08-08-2011 06:56 AM

I'm ready for Fall but hate the cold winters.

sueisallaboutquilts 08-08-2011 06:58 AM

How many days of awful are left - Countdown to Cooler Weather
54 days 13 hours 20 minutes and 51 seconds

You bet in Houston we are waiting for October...we usually get a bit of cool in the evenings and mornings!!!

denise d 08-08-2011 07:51 AM

NO!!!!

I am not a winter girl at all. I have been in Indiana for 6 yrs and still have not learned to drive in the snow. (DENIAL not just a river in Africa :) )

Give me 100° summers and I am good!!!

redkimba 08-08-2011 07:56 AM

What is the EC on the map(s)? I'm right around that area.

There's a local radio station who has a contest on when you think the recorded temperature will be below 100.

sarahrachel 08-08-2011 08:09 AM

I have not a clue what the "ec" means. I'm more in the wet, snowy and COLD area. But I guess I'll take whatever they give me! Will be looking for more snow predicting signs. Did you know that high wasp nests mean a harsh winter?? Not sure how I feel about that as my parents plow snow in the winter...

shawnemily 08-08-2011 08:10 AM

I really LOVE the snow and dont mind driving in it. But I hate the ice and super cold! So if could snow at about 50 degrees I would be really happy!! LOL
I went to visit a GF in AZ between Christmas and New years a while back and we were headed to the Grand Canyon. We got caought in a snow storm and even the tow trucks were getting stuck! LOL I ended up driving (her car NOT the tow trucks :)) and thought it was pretty neat!!!!

Thanks for the good news.
I am really enjoying the sun on my skin.. I am not able to get out in the winter and really not looking forward to winter at all....maybe I should go south like other snow birds... :)

luvstitches 08-08-2011 10:40 AM

I hate to complain about summer with living in NE Ohio in the snowbelt but....I'm ready for Fall!!!!

stitchinwitch 08-08-2011 12:03 PM

Jammin' Jane 08-08-2011 12:05 PM

Bring it on! I love the snow!

Kappy 08-08-2011 12:11 PM

I can't believe it's August already! I love autumn, it's my favorite season, but it's coming way to fast!

trolleystation 08-08-2011 12:44 PM

I am voting for a long autumn and a short winter. I do not like this hot humid weather.

annyroony2 08-08-2011 01:32 PM

I hate winter with its cold, icy, wet, messy weather! UGH...but can't wait till fall comes. hahaha

Quiltbeagle 08-08-2011 02:49 PM

Can't wait for this summer heat is gone! Is is just me or are the winters getting colder and the summers hotter every year?

sarahrachel 08-08-2011 03:17 PM

no it's not just you. I blame global warming and all we're doing to make it worse.

But I prefer winter over summer. I'd take shoveling snow over sweating any day. At least once the snow's shoveled, I can curl up under a quilt to get warm!

clarinet87 08-08-2011 03:21 PM

I love all the seasons really... I love the heat in summer, but I love cuddling up with soft, warm things in winter! Missouri is really the perfect place for me :)

alikat110 08-08-2011 10:55 PM

I welcome cooler weather with open arms and warm coat, gloves and hat!!!!

plainpat 08-09-2011 03:11 AM

EC might mean extremely cold????????

Homespun 08-09-2011 04:21 AM

I don't like winter either and those maps did not make me feel good!

romanojg 08-09-2011 04:41 AM

Not now; we rarely have snow and even when it's cold we normally always have at least one weekend a month w/around 70 degree weather all winter. Last year was bad for us; more snow than normal and more cold. Which is what is predicted again for this year; slightly colder, more snow, etc. I don't like being cold; it takes too long to warm up. Now I know I have to get my jeep on the road. I hated having to drive my 2010 Fusion last year in the snow; it did good but I was a nervous wreck. Most people around here don't know how to drive in the snow.

I totally agree! My family took a vacation down to Florida in 2004 right after Christmas and we were in NC and they had a major ice storm and people were sliding all over the place. My dad finally decided he was in more danger from other drivers than the ice and we stayed in a hotel that afternoon. The next day was better but the highway was a traffic jam.

Sounds like the winter we just went through here in Tennessee. Not counting down til winter, but just some cooler weather would be nice.

skyduck 08-09-2011 04:57 AM

After looking at those maps I am very happy that we will be moving from Minnesota to Florida in a month! I have dealt with the snow all my life and am looking forward to leaving the snow blowers and shovels behind! :)

reginalovesfabric 08-09-2011 04:59 AM

don't know what EC means....I'm in that area

michelehuston 08-09-2011 05:00 AM

YUCK!! Colder, wetter and more snow than normal! I can't take another winter!!! I hate it!!! :(

reginalovesfabric 08-09-2011 05:15 AM

Counting down to WINTER!!!!!!!!!!! We just got summer!!! Ok it's been HOTTER THEN HAITTI but at least it doesn't last 6 months, But on the flip side of that I know Texas really needs the moisture. God Bless them

Quilt Mom 08-09-2011 05:30 AM

Okay, with snowfall/precipitation above normal and temps below normal (my area), does that mean the Missouri will be flooded again next year? I am not sure we can take another year like this one.

My DH and I hung a January calendar on the wall for its picture of snow, to take our minds off the extreme heat and all the water around here. Yes, I am ready for fall/winter to come. Personally, I hope fall sticks around so I can do some of the remedial yardwork that I can't do in the heat!

Becky Mc 08-09-2011 05:57 AM

OMG I was hopping for a not so cold winter this year last year just about did me in. I heat with wood, live alone, and on a tight budget. I had my stove going until May. It is an outside one so not matter what the weather I have to go. Have no back up heat. So lets hope that they are wrong just a winter with no extremes please.
