Help! I'm looking online but I thought I would ask here too about fixing a zipper. It's a skirt zipper that is on the side and the "teeth" arent aligning but the zipper pull still goes up and down...I hope that makes sense. I don't want to have to pull the skirt apart to fix it. Anyone have any suggestions would be great!!! Thanks :)

I would replace the whole zipper. Sometimes it's the teeth that get screwy. You think you have it all lined up and then it comes apart at the worst time!

Sometime the tab just needs to be taken off and put back on, to do that you just need to take the stitching off of the bottom of the zipper, take the tab off and redo it, (sometimes there is a metal clip at the end that you have to remove) , sometimes you have to work at getting it to go back on, and then I would test the zipper to see if it still works, some times the tab is bent or damaged and that is why it is misaligned on the coils, sew it back up (if sewn correctly you don't need to put back the metal stopper)

Woo hoo...just fixed it! Found a wonderful site with step by step pictures! It's a brand new skirt but I don't have the tags anymore or I would have exchanged it.

I fix and replace zippers all of the time, it isn't a favorite job but one that needs doing all to often.

Color me impressed! You gals are so talented. I can barely sew a button on! And I never have figured out the Buttoneer I bought. :roll:

I sew buttons on by machine, drop your feed dog, change your zigzag to the width of the holes, I think it is 3 to 3.5,(All but the tiny tiny buttons have the same hole width) (if you can't drop your feed dogs, change your stitch length to 0) stick everything under the presser foot (some machines have a specific food but you don't need it) and do the first stitches by turning the wheel to make sure that the needle will go in both holes, and then just step on it, if the button is in the wrong position you run a risk of breaking the needle and or button.

My machine sews buttons for me! :)
