do you wear sleeveless? I can't stand having my floppy arms flying in the breeze looks like I am a pelican about to take off and I can't stand seeing it on other women terrible I know. Why don't they make shirts with longer sleeves than those little quarter length things. Oh well when those terrible storms blew winds 60 mph I thought they were going to catch me and fly me away

Murphy 06-24-2011 05:03 AM

ROFL. I don't wear sleeveless because I don't like sticking to myself in the heat.

Better to have floppy arms than no arms - - -

But mine are more flappy than floppy - -

Opal Jane 06-24-2011 05:20 AM

They do make shirts with longer sleeves, they are called 3/4 sleeves.

Tink's Mom 06-24-2011 05:21 AM

I have my Grandmother's arms... I don't look good, but I have come to the conclusion that most of the others don't either.
I will only wear shorts at home...but, I will wear a decent tank top....I'm not going to suffer in the heat because someone doesn't want to look at my wiggly arms.

emmamarie 06-24-2011 05:41 AM

OKLAHOMA PEACH 06-24-2011 05:47 AM

They do make 3/4 sleeves, but very, very few. I will not go sleeveless in public. Shorts only at home alone. I also wish they would make more shirts with sleeves. I have those horrible walmart pictures on my mind.

clem55 06-24-2011 05:48 AM

Neve could understand why women, as much lifting , pushing and pulling and wiping we have had to do for years, don't have tight arms instead of flab! I hate to be sleeveless, even around home!

Jeanniejo 06-24-2011 05:50 AM

I agree !!! I don't want 3/4 sleeves in the summer !!! Just a longer, short sleeve!!

maryb119 06-24-2011 06:29 AM

I don't wear sleeveless anything any more. I have "bat wings".

lyndad 06-24-2011 06:30 AM

Well, the Lord blessed me with skinny arms and legs, but the belly and love handle area are a whole different story, they are floppy and flappy lol

ptquilts 06-24-2011 06:30 AM

when you wave goodbye, your arms keep on waving...

DebraK 06-24-2011 06:32 AM

Add a couple inches of pretty fabric trim to your sleeves. I live in t shirts so it is not a problem for me.

Mimito2 06-24-2011 06:32 AM

I have some "sheer" floral print blouse's that I wear over tanks just to hide the "swing".

I was going to say the same thing...when I wave Hello or Goodbye to people, I figure it makes them feel special cuz my arms wave so exhuberantly!
:)

I have wondered for years why t-shirts do not have longer sleeves unless you by men's shirts...I too have the floppy arm thingie...lol...but the rest of me is more than chubby enough to make me well-grounded in a wind storm...lol    Naomi

Joan 06-24-2011 06:34 AM

I've given up sleeveless tops, they make me feel self conscious. (yes, floppy arm thingy)

Plus to add insult to injury, I got a bad spider bite this past winter which has left a disgusting looking scar plus dent in one arm.

(Oh, vanity, thy name is woman  )

max's grandma 06-24-2011 06:48 AM

I agree 100% it is almost impossible to find one with longer sleeves. The fashion industry always buy for the slender young women cause they know that they will buy the most clothing.

Bobbin along 06-24-2011 07:00 AM

Yup--me, too. I inherited the floppy-arm genes from my mother's side of the family--who also had "bosoms" that looked to be stuffed with the entire contents of a feather bed. As a child, I'd just look at them and wonder when do they get those. Actually, I entertain my gk's with rides-hanging off om floppy arms--"Hang on now, kids, we'll do a loop-de-loop!"
When shopping for tops, I'm always searching for the longer filmy butterfly-type sleeves--not the easiest things to find but well worth the search!

Kuusistoquilter 06-24-2011 07:03 AM

I have floppy arms and cottage cheese thighs, but I wear shorts and tank tops in the summer. I have reached the age that I don't care what people think about me. I feel comfortable, so people will have to be careful to not get hit by my floppy arms.

i've got a top on now that isn't flattering to my arms. sort of cap sleeves. not my normal style i can tell you.

QuiltnNan 06-24-2011 07:31 AM

my arms are not that floppy, but i still don't go sleeveless in public. like others here, i wish there were more longer sleeves. in fact, i have psoriasis that is not completely helped medically, so i prefer 3/4 length to cover the elbows. i have been known to knit my own cotton sweaters to achieve that.

nyelphaba 06-24-2011 02:41 PM

When I was a child I used to tease my Grandma about her upside down muscles- now I have them. Not as funny as when Grandma had them. I guess what goes around comes around.

cr12cats 06-24-2011 03:18 PM

i can find tops with sleeves but trying to find summer dresses with sleeves is really rare. they are either sleeveless or long sleeves. I like to wear dresses in the summer but finding them is something else.

ljfox 06-24-2011 03:23 PM

I have never figured out why women get arms like this. Mine are getting floppier every year and I hate it. Where does all that extra skin come from? My arms were never that fat that they should have that much skin on them!

cizzors 06-24-2011 07:22 PM

Try being 5'5 and 110lbs (I look thinner-no one believes I weigh over 100 lbs). I never wore tanks when I was younger because I was so thin. Now at 48 and 8 yrs into menopause, I've gain only a couple lbs and don't give a rip what other people think. I won't wear spahgetti straps because of the bony shoulders.

As far as the flapping, yeah, I've got that going. I was told that men have 3 muscles and we only have 2 and it's the bottom one we're missing. Would love to know a quick way to firm up-alot.

katier825 06-25-2011 02:57 AM

Lands End has shirts with elbow length sleeves. I have seen them other places, but have only bought one from Lands End. I love it. It's just the right length. Some places call them half sleeve. They are a little bit cooler than the 3/4 sleeve shirts.

me too! when it gets hot and sticky I put on tank tops and above the knee shorts. Horrors!! But if the teenagers can go around showing their underwear then I can show my wiggly thighs and arms. :)

kuntryquilter 06-25-2011 03:40 AM

I call mine 'water wings'

This is funny because my eldest told her grandmother one day she had down muscles. Cracked us all up for years. Mom told the story on herself because they were alone at the time. Now I have down muscles and also don't like them flopping around. I try to stay in short sleeves. I always hated wearing shorts after I had kids so mostly sweated all summer. A few years ago after surgery when I couldn't wear pants at all I "discovered" dresses. Nice and cool and I can make them any length I want ditto the sleeves.

Mimmis57 06-25-2011 05:21 AM

I agree with the pelican analogy! I also have an ugly skin tag under my right flap that I keep hidden!

jhoward 06-25-2011 05:29 AM

Even young girls have that flap going on, just watch the royalty in a parade waving! May not be as bad as some of ours, but it flaps......poor girls do not have any idea what their arms will look like in 20 years....I'm going to tell them.

MaryAnnMc 06-25-2011 05:36 AM

Oh, I've reached that stage, too. I play in a handbell choir at church, and when we were discussing tops to wear for performances, someone made the comment that we need to wear 3/4 sleeves so we don't distract the congregation with the flapping!   We always wear sleeves now.

ncredbird 06-25-2011 05:40 AM

My granddaughter calls them "wattles", like the fleshy growth hanging from the head or neck of chickens. They are the great equalizer. I get great comfort in knowing that all the snippy "in crowd" girls in high school that didn't have time to say hello to me have them also and are probably bothered by them more than I am.

Tweety2911 06-25-2011 05:41 AM

LOL!! My angel wings can use a little longer sleeve also.

sandpat 06-25-2011 05:44 AM

When I first noticed mine, I thought WOW! I'm turning into an angel! Must be because I'm getting wings! I don't care whether anyone else wants to see the flapping or not...if I go to the trouble to shave my pits....I'm going sleeveless!

just stitchin' 06-25-2011 05:56 AM

I tell everyone that they are the buds for my angel wings.
