Folded Star Ornaments

1 Attachment(s)
These folded star ornaments were lots of fun to make. Using 3” Styrofoam balls and 3” fabric squares and lots of dressmaker pins. Directions can be found on YouTube under “Quilted Christmas Ornaments” even though they are not quilted (no batting). I plan on setting them out on display in a basket and then attaching hangers for the tree at Christmas time. They don’t necessarily have to be for Christmas! This project was a good way to use up fabric scraps.

They are beautiful. (And as addicting as making hexagons!) One year I made one for everyone I worked with - there were 50 of them. And that did not count the ones I made for myself and family. It must have gotten rather popular that year because we used the dressmaker pins (it was over 300 pins per ball) and my friend and I went to the factory outlet to buy the pins by the pound. The cost of the pins literally tripled in cost before we stopped. So much fun, mixing the fabrics and we used ribbon and lace around the middle. I still have a few balls left, a pound of pins and various fabrics all cut up. Great memory!

They are beautiful and fun to make. I have made a few myself in Collegiate fabrics. Just don't put them in the hot attic over the summer. The styrofoam shrinks leaving gaps in the fabrics. I learned the hard way to store them in climate controlled places.
