My best friend has been bitten by the fishing bug. She and her son fish almost every weekend at the lake by their home. My friend has a birthday coming up, and I'd like to get her something she would like for her new hobby. Not being a fisherwoman, I have no idea what to buy her. I bought a light-weight nylon vest with many pockets but would like to get her something in addition to that. I went to a sporting goods store and walked around and around, totally confused. Guess I could have asked a salesman, but being absolutely naive to fishing, I was afraid he'd try to sell me something unnecessary and expensive.

Any ideas, please???

Fish net and bucket, fishing lures, hooks, bobbins, etc....

A good pair of leather gloves (I also fish - smile). Not driving gloves, working gloves.

I would go for a gift certificate in a pretty little quilted bag. MIL buys DH fishing stuff but she always gets him the wrong lures, wrong lines, wrong poles, etc for the kind of fishing he does. He just says thanks and adds it to a pile in the garage and she has no idea....I don't buy him anything for fishing without checking with him or son first.

Oh yes have an idea. Her own tackle box maybe with a woman's look in color to suit her. Some needed items inside also.
My husband gave me that one year for a gift and I remember it fondly to this day. He has been gone 21 years.

I would give a gift card and let her get what she wants.

Hat, sunscreen and needle nose pliers!

Yes pliers -- need them for sooo many things

If they night fish they have these clip on lights you can turn on and off to see. They clip on the bill of a hat and are the best thing!

Good suggestions so far...I'd get her the tacklebox...a small one with a strap for over the shoulder that is easy to carry. (They kind of look like an insulated lunchbox).

For my retirement, I received a white and pink rod and reel-very "girly"! The pink lady brought me a lot of luck last summer!

I agree, a nice tackle box, or better yet the idea of a gift card then she can buy what she wants! My dh bought me my own tackle box for my birthday a couple of years ago, complete with tackle and such! I love it!

Gift card is alright or ask her to make a wish list. The list doesn't mean that she gets everything on it - it just gives a direction for you to go in.

(my family does the wish list for Xmas every year)

Give her a "gift certificate" for one day of shopping for fishing equipment for her. You then get to spend some time with her and she can choose what she wants or needs for her fishing. I know I would like to choose what I would like or need for quilting rather than someone who doesn't know what to get and it would be fun spending TIME with my friend.

I have found from experience it isn't easy to know which lures, hooks, flys, etc... are what the recipient needs or will use.
I have called bait shops around the area where the person fishes, and asked what their best sellers were for that area  Some of these little shops even had gift certificates :D:D:D

I really like your idea, but she lives in a different state so I'll have to mail the gifts to her. Sure would be nice spending the day shopping with her. We've been best friends for over 40 years.

I fish also and my favorite gift was a baseball style cap with LED lights in the bill to see at night. It's hard to know if you have a bite if you can't see the tip of the pole and it's hands free.
