Today, I got a job. It's as a baker for a dog bakery and the lady who hired me is trying to get it established so we're doing samples (free) for right now until we can hit upon a proven product that all dogs will eat. Don't laugh, it's a real job. I also got called about another part-time job today for an interview on a day when I can't possibly make but am trying to rearrange my schedule and a vital meeting regarding a part-time job for just February. From zero prospects to many. I'm happy but don't know how realistic the bakery will actually be unless she can get her doggie daycare clients to actually want to buy the treats. Currently, am recouping expenses plus a bit extra but it's all being plowed right back into supplies for the treats. Anyway, it's a job. :)

Good for you. The bakery sounds like and interesting job. Who knows, it may take off and you will one of the original employees.

Am making liver brownies tonite. Horrible smell but my doggies love them. Dh and DDs aren't crazy about the smell. Not sure I am either. Have to make 2 more batches of cookies by Mon for the owner. Gotta love the baking of treats and finding a recipe that I want to work with.

Congratulations!

I'm not laughing. I've known someone who sold doggy baked goods at one time. Pet owners like to pamper their pets, and wouldn't you rather buy them something freshly baked than something from a box, with all those chemical additives?

Still, price is a factor. This would be a sure thing in New York City, but in Kansas it might take more work.

Liver flavored, huh? Ya might want to suggest to your boss that dogs love regular baked goods, too.

You know, there was about 30 billion $$ spent on pets last year so if anyone laughs it may be you and your boss all the way to the bank. Glad you found a job.

Those that use normal ingredients (not cat food, liver, etc) are taste tested by me and my doggies of course. Those that have the weird things in them are tested strictly by me doggies. They love the liver brownies and the catfood cookies. The liver brownies smelled terrible when they were being bakd and don't smell so great now that they've been cut and packaged for consumption. I did make a batch of rolled cookies that are actually pretty decent tasting and fairly low-cal to boot. My dogs love them!!!

Most dogs LOVE, LOVE, LOVE liver, which is why it is used often as "bait" by dog show handlers. It is likely the top choice if dogs were voting. But liver is quite rich for dogs, their stool can turn to diarrhea if they eat much, also that richness can cause gas which the owners may not appreciate! Another "bait" often used at shows is hot dogs, or chicken, perhaps those would smell better as far as the baking, I know I can't bear the smell of liver.

Good luck, it sounds like FUN!!! :D

Congratulations to you!

My two Labs, Abby and Molly, have just volunteered to be taste testers of your treats. I told them that would be fine if they could come up with plane tickets.....lol

I'm not sure Maya, my shepherd, would agree to house guests unless they are willing to play with her for hours on end. :D

Maya sounds just like Abby. They would get along great! Molly is more laid back, she is "mature". They're both looking under the couch cushions right now for change so they can buy tickets!

Making dog treats sounds like a very interesting job. Good luck with it.

I love seeing the conversation between you and Joan about your dogs. I can just picture a dog's nose under the cushion of a couch looking for change but coming up with cookie crumbs instead!

They like the cookie crumbs, too......who knew two Labs would be such great housekeepers?

I know Maya and Buddy, the boxer, are great housekeepers if it involves dropped food or anything that they think might be edible to include spilled cat food. Abby can come play with Maya anytime and Max can visit with Buddy. I'm sure all parties would have a good time. While they're busy, you and I can go hit a couple of fabric stores. How's that sound?
