What do you think? I was at the salon for 6.5 hours! I like it, so does Hubby. Thank goodness b/c that is the reason we women subject ourselves to this right, men? lol

Here they are.

Kyia

haha, not the greatest at self portraits, nor am I very photogenic, sorry.

Very pretty - could we see a before picture?

Lisanne 01-29-2010 09:58 AM

I have very curly hair and have had mine straightened in the past. Isn't it a wonderful feeling? Yours looks great, so smooth and healthy!

Why did it take 6.5 hours, though? I've done it at home in an hour or two, and in the salon it only ever took 2 hours at most.

I'd like to see a before picture, too. Then we can all really appreciate the difference.

reneebobby 01-29-2010 10:14 AM

Well, i think your new dew looks great and as for your picture we never look good when we take them. You want straight hair and I want curly want to trade?

gaigai 01-29-2010 10:19 AM

Well, considering I've spent tens of thousands of dollars over the years trying to get my hair to curl, all I can do is shake my head!! But your hair looks great. For straight hair, that is!

And NO, that is NOT why women do things to their hair. Take my sister, who had hair down past her knees. Virgin hair that she didn't even use heat on. It was gorgeous, didn't have a split or broken end. Our hair dresser knew just how to get her. When he suggested cutting it, her reply was "Oh, my husband would go nuts". His comeback was, "Well, since your husband is in charge of YOUR hair, I guess we'd better do what he wants". She thought about it for about six-tenths of a second and said "You are right. It's my hair not his. Cut it!". Of course hubby was smart enough to keep his mouth shut! ROFL

You're beautiful! What do you mean not photogenic???? Goodness Girlfriend....if that's not photogenic, I'd like to know what is!

Thank you all. Here is the onl pic I have on computer. This was back in June. My hair is naturally wavy. I had gotten a perm in 2006, 2007 and 2008. This pic is from June of 09. I either wanted my hair perfectly straight or curly. My natural hair is wave. I love the straight look. But prolly later I will want a change.

Thanks again, Kyia.

It looks great!!!!! I just had mine done, though it was called a smoothing protein treatment rather than a straightening per se. I love my hair now, no effort and it's smooth (and I live in a humid place).

Mine took about 3 hours start to finish but it wasn't curly to begin with, just way.

I'll definitely do it again!

mochasue 01-29-2010 11:40 AM

Both of your "hair" pictures are great. I would take either!

Jim's Gem 01-29-2010 11:44 AM

Your hair looks beautiful! Both ways!!!
Why is it that we women always want to change our hair?
Mine used to be straighter than straight and in the past had spent plenty of money getting perms. Now I have a little more body and a slight wave, I like it like that but of course now I have to hide the little bit of gray that is starting to appear!!

Margie 01-29-2010 12:01 PM

You look wonderful BOTH ways...you have been blessed with wonderful hair. I am so envious of people with curls lol I never understand why they want it straight.

Margie

ToucanSam 01-29-2010 12:02 PM

With me, it was more that I just wanted it smooth. I can still curl it or style it any way I want, but none of the frizz factor, even when it's rainy.

samroberts01 01-29-2010 12:03 PM

So did you get it chemically straightened? I have thought about doing this too, but wasnt sure how it was on your hair.

Maride 01-29-2010 12:14 PM

If you saw my curls you would understand. My curls are so tight that being 3 inches long it would curl and seem to be half inch long or less. When is humid it freezes and goes up. I had it chemically straightened and I love it now. It is long, past my shoulders and I love it. The only problem with the chemical relaxer is that you can not wash it and let it air dry. It gets too frizzy. I blow dry after every wash and every once in a while I use a flat iron to help it lay flat.

samroberts01 01-29-2010 12:23 PM

I would love it if I could just blow dry it, I have very thick hair and it is curly so it is a nightmare to dry and straighten it. I may just have to try these soon.

Darlene 01-29-2010 12:28 PM

Girls with curly hair want straight and girls with straight hair want curly. That is the way of the world.

sewjoyce 01-29-2010 12:48 PM

sewnsewer2 01-29-2010 02:32 PM

Love it! I use a flat iron on mine because it is wavy.

nativetexan 01-29-2010 02:58 PM

Oh WOW, it's gorgeous and you ain't so bad yourself hon.
you could have ironed it on your ironing board like they did in the "olden" days. it looks lovely.

Love the new hairdo!

Jingle 01-29-2010 05:59 PM

You are very pretty, straight or curly looks very good. I have straight hair and it seemed to get around my shoulders and would not grow anymore, when I was a young girl I would want it to grow. I gave up about 38 Yr.s ago. I told Hubby if he wanted long he could grow his long, I've had short hair ever since and he even cuts it for me now. I use to keep it permed but, quit several years ago, now I spend that time quilting. Works for me.

bad boy, billy.

Your hair is very becoming. I think it softens your face and makes you look younger.
Keep smiling, but watch out for that Billy!

Yes I did. The product that was used and the process kept it healthy so the stylist said. And I agree that it is healthy.

Me too. I liked my perm but it was time for a change. My hair wouldn't lay straight even naturally that bugged me. It now is straight, smooth and soft. I am very happy with it and will do it again.

My hair is also very thick. It takes for ever to dry naturally or by blow dryer. I love it now. So much easier to comb!

Thank you all for the sweet posts. I like it either way too. Prolly in a few years I will want another change and perm it again, maybe cut it who knows, but I'll show you the too.

Thank you too Billy, DH likes it too!

i started having my hair straightened when i was 14 and stopped when i was 50. (oh! did i say that?) i only stopped because it looked silly to see a 'mature' woman, almost grey, with waist long hair. braided, it looked goofier. i had it chemically done and every time i washed it i had to stretch it or flatten it as it dried. new york is a humid place. but all the time i did it, i felt pretty . i know just how you feel. now you look like you always felt you were supposed to.
different hair, same lovely face.

p.s. i'm the short one with straight hair (next to the tall one).1963

*QuilterWannabee* 01-30-2010 12:20 AM

You're pretty! I love your curly hair. Why on earth would you change it? I know...it's fun and refreshing to have a new do or style to wear, right? I always wanted straight teeth, LMBO.

SulaBug 01-30-2010 12:53 AM

Kyia,
You are beautiful & so is your hair!! :D I really like the new straight look, but I also liked your curly look. I think you can wear it anyway you want too!!

Well, I think you are beautiful both ways. Having stick straight hair that refuses to hold a curl, I am always in awe of women with gorgeous curls as you have naturally. That said, I understand that it'd be a hassle to care for.

If you are happy with the new look and feel it's worth the time/money/effort, that is what matters. You're darned cute in both pics!

GladGrams 01-30-2010 08:26 AM

I LOVE your hair!!! To have such long hair, curly or straight, would be wonderful. I have always had to have short styles because I was "blessed" with such fine hair. Drats! Your hair shines as much as your eyes. Thanks for sharing.
