Hand cream/lotion?
I want to buy a nice hand cream or lotion for my friend's birthday. She is outdoors quite a bit...loves fishing and gardening, and her poor hands really takes a toll. Is there a good hand cream or lotion you can recommend? And while you're at it, how about a good hand cream for quilters? Something that won't leave a mess on fabric?

For the outdoorsy person I would go with something like Corn Huskers.
For the one that wont' leave a mess on fabric ... I have a hand lotion "bar" called "Quilters Friend". It comes in a lot of different scents ... but I'll warn you ... the scent is strong! They might make an unscented. It's a Soy lotion and it does not leave a stain on the fabric. I also run thread through it sometimes for hand sewing (usually binding). I bought it at a LQS and there is an e-mail listed on the bar ...[email protected]. BTW ... it fits nicely in an Altoid or Sucrets tin :) |
I love avons Moisture thereapy hand cream....the one that comes in a tub, not the tube. Its reasonably priced and has aot of moisture.

I am not associated with them but do love their products, I use it on my hands and feet mostly, but it has worked very well. |

I like to use emu oil when my hands get really dry or chapped. It's especially good for outdoor hands.

Diane Gaudynski recommends Neutragena Emulsion Lotion...it is non-greasy. Here is a description of the lotion(from Amazon):
"Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Body Emulsion is the moisturizing alternative that continues to work when most lotions won't. This creamy lotion soothes and smoothes even problem dry skin. Lighter than a cream, it is comfortable for all-over daytime use. Richer than ordinary lotions, it delivers longer lasting softening and protection from dryness and flaking. This glycerin rich formula leaves problem dry skin softer, smoother, protected, instantly renewed. It started with Norwegian fishermen. Faced with some of the harshest, coldest weather on earth, they used a formula that delivers concentrated levels of glycerin to dry, chapped skin providing immediate and lasting relief. Five years of independent clinical testing confirm what the fishermen knew all along. That the Norwegian Formula Hand Cream consistently outperforms other products. Now Norwegian Formula is also available to you in foot cream, body emulsion, and body moisturizer. Lighter than a cream. Richer than ordinary lotions." |
I have to use "No Crack Cream" which I buy through the Duluth Trading Company. It works great.

I copied the recipe provided this week on the quilting board for Quilters hand cream. My only concern is does this stain or leave a greasy feel to hands . I would like to make this for the girls in our quilting group for our christmas exchange. But don't want to give them a product that if used will stain their quilts. thanks for any answers. gen

Yeah, I like Neutrogena as well, but I mix my own from Fruit of the Earth, Johnson's baby lotion(unscented) and 2 T of softened vaseline until it is mixed. I use it on hands, face, feet, dry elbows, etc. Have made it for years.
1 cup of baby lotion (I use shea and cocoa butter as I do not like the baby smell of the pink) 4 ounces of Vitamin E cream by Fruit of the Earth, and 2 T of vaseline. It is thin, but soaks in and feels great. |
I use the moo moo cream too (utterly smooth moisturizing) I buy it in quantity as my husband uses it too!

I stopped auditioning hand lotions a few years ago when I noticed the nurses in the hospital were using Curel. It's non greasy, affordable, unscented, easily available at any drugstore, and works great.

Spa Manicure by BeautiControl is my favorite. I have tubes of it in every purse and room . My husband loves it too. Periodic exfoliation gets rid of dry , cracked skin followed by the hand lotion.

Hand Cream
For many years I've used Hoof Makers cream. And I take it to blood drives
and others find it useful also for dry hands. We have to wash hands often, even between changing gloves. I get it at either Farm Supply store or my local grocery store, or some drug stores. Bag Balm is also good, especially when I'm working in the dirt in the back yard. |
