Has Anyone Ever Made a Graduation Sash?

Hi all you smart and creative quilters and sewers! My son asked me to make him a study abroad graduation sash for him. I tried to look up instructions on the internet and cannot find what I want. It simply has to go around the neck with both ends hanging down the front. I think the part that goes around the neck has to be curved. My husband seems to think it would be worth the $$ to buy the sash instead of having me make one. They are around $40.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

The honor sashes our grads wear are not curved. They might look better if they were, but they are not. Just a long strip with points on each end.

Thank you! This gives me hope. I need to embroider the country's flag symbol on them, too.

I googled "pattern for graduation sash" and a bunch of things came up. They also call them graduation stoles.

Thanks! I tried this too. There are lots of pics and companies but I could not find a video or directions on how to make one. One set of instructions were repeated in lots of websites and at best, were vague. The best I found was a picture with some dimensions. I could handle dimensions except I really want to be able to do that curve around the neck, which they do not describe. That seems to be my only hesitation.

Maybe I should create a pattern and post it on youtube!!!

Thanks for your help!

Try this link. If the link does not work, I googled 'how to make a stole', and it's the first thing that came up. You have to scroll down a ways, but it does show how to make a curved neck. You'll have to adjust the size, since this is for a clergy stole, which I think is bigger than what you want. If this doesn't work, try searching on confirmation stoles - they might be a better size.

Good Luck

This is good. Never saw this site. I'll give it a go. Gotta go to Joann's and get some satin fabric now!

I would cut a sample out of some old cloth for a pattern.

This one is for a minister, but is just two lengths sewn at a 45 degree angle. http://serendipitymuse.com/muse/2013...ject-revealed/

Could it be that easy? Sew a 45 degree angle in the back? This may be the ticket. The sashes I've seen have the curved neck, but who cares what the back of the neck looks like? This is easier and very practical. If the sash is too long, all I have to do is take it in back there. THANKS!!!
