Olivia's Grammy 08-20-2010 09:19 AM

We went to DS's house Friday to care for our beautiful DGD (14m). Monday I went alone. They live 75 miles from us. Tuesday Mom was sick so she stayed with Olivia. Wed I brought Olivia home with me. Thank goodness for DH as he has been doing alot, except for the poppy diapers. How do you do it? We are exhausted. Please keep in mind, I am not venting. I love my DGD and am happy they chose us and not the other grandparents to care for her. So again HATS OFF TO YOU THAT ARE RAISING YOUR GRANDCHILDREN Oh btw she has an ear infection.

Poor Olivia! Ear infections are miserable! I hope she feels better soon!

Well the ear infection will make things more difficult  And what a drive every day , that would wear me out

Bless you for doing this and it is memories that you will never forget  Sorry no suggestions

Had to laugh at this, especially the statement, "glad they chose us instead of other GP". Exactly how I felt when my sons became parents for the first time. After all, I knew I was the best caregiver.LOL Now that I have done this for 21 years, running and fetching, having all day( sick or well,(me or the kids)) , and the youngest just now starting kindergarten, I am here to tell you, "it gets old after awhile!!! Our youngesst two live 10 miles straight down the road from the other GM,their school is inbeteen. we live abouy 35 miles away, we go at least twice a month( or more) to pick up the kids from school and watch until their daddy can come get them. Did I say parents are divorced?

Having only one is more time consuming...no others for them to play with. I always have 2+ come, other wise I would never have a minute to myself LOL

My DGSs come to visit me as often as we can arrange it. My twin 7yr olds just left and the 5 and 6yr old are coming Sat for a few days.

When they are sick, I bring out the "quiet box." It is full of special things they can do while resting on the couch  and they don't get to play with them any other time :D

My only grandchild lives with me and believe me I am tired at the end of the day. But I love it.

It is only possible because it is a labor of love. We had our 3 yo dgs with us for 3 months. Believe me, we are tired out, but it was sad to see him leave. Especially knowing that is mother is living with her mother and not the kind of person I would ever want my kids around. But as grandparents, all we can do is be there when they need us and pray a lot when they aren't here. The house is so quiet that I can hear the echos of his voice.

Grandparents are awesome! My parents take my son all summer. I see him every weekend and he is only 30 minutes away. I can visit if I want to but he is 13 and doesn't seem to want his mom around. I am a divorced mom and he only sees his dad twice a month. My parents help with school supplies and clothes. Grandparents are a blessing and I only hope I can be as great! Blessings to you!

Our DD and grandbabies live with us. I love having them all the time, but they do leave me exhausted on a daily basis. DD is very lucky to have wonderful in-laws. They love and adore the babies just like DH and I do.

I helped out alot with oldest Granddaughter, I was not quite 42 and believe when she could move around and spread toys around I sure felt it.
Good for all your Grandparents, I hope things go well for all your hard work.
