Ladies, there has been a lot writtin in the newspaper and on T.V that Heart Attacks among women is one of the leadng causes of death. They also said that women are more lkely to have a second heart attack withn the year of the first one.
Are there heart attack survivors on the QB?
What changes did you do after?
Any complications?
And how old were you then and now.
I'll go first, I ws the last person you would think would have a HA. I exercised and more or less watched what I age. I had my attack in 2010 before my 62 birthday. A week after I left the hospital I had repiratory failure and rushed to hospital.
I've changed my diet and now I look at the saturated fat in food. I continue to exercise , a bit more vigorously. Have check up by Dr's every 3 months. I'm close to having to need dialysis, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I will be 63 in Sept. Let me know your experience

I had a heart attack in 2005 at 52 yrs old. I had a little pressure like indigestion and my elbows hurt so bad I wanted to cry. They kept getting worse. Finally turning gray, DH rushed me to the hosp and yes I had blockage and now own 2 stents. Since then I have my cholesterol and triglycerides at a normal if not below normal level with meds and diet. I have labs run ever 6 mos. to keep on track. I also gave up the "Superwoman" status thinking I had to be all and do all. Relieved a lot of stress!

there's another post on QB that is quite active right now on the exact same subject. Ladies, it is sooooo important that you remember that women present differently with symptoms of a heart attack.... check out the other post @

No problem! There can never be too many discussions on this matter. I had a heart attack at the age of 41 and am the proud owner of two stents!!!

Had mine at 53, did not know until I gained 26lbs of water 5 months later. I now have congestive heart failure, diabetes and heart disease. I am on lots of meds, no salt or sugar diet, and am the proud owner of an ICD. My own personal pacemaker and defibulater. See the Dr. once a year now, all my problems are mostly hereditary, though I would have taken better care of myself, diet and excersise just didn't think it could happen to me. Now I caution my children and they are for the most part listening.

I was actually starting to take better care of myself. I had lost 90 pounds, had quit eating fried foods, eating healthier, quit drinking alcohol as much. I had my cholesterol checked 2 months before my heart attack and it was improved from the year before. It was normal but in the high normal range. I still smoked though. My cardiologist felt that it was a fluke that it happened to me, just a piece of plaque broke off the wall of my artery and blocked it.
