Help With Machine Embroidery!!!
 

I am trying to embroider a #2 onto a onsie for my grandson. I have done this before without the problem I'm having. The fabric keeps moving!! I have pulled and pulled as tightly as I can. I have tightened the frame as tightly as it will go. It almost seems the fabric loosens during the process. Then the facric moves and the stitches aren't on the same lines.

I honestly don't understand this. My daughter wants it done for his party tomorrow, and of course, she just gave me the shirts yesterday!

What kind of stableizer are you using? I use an iron or for knits.

Well, you can use the sticky stabilizer or glue and the fabric will stay in place---but if your problem is that the hoop doesn't stay tight enough, the wrap some narrow strips of adhesive tape on the inside ends and sides of the hoop that goes on the outside. Personally, I think the sticky stabilizer holds the project quite well---especially good for those items that won't fit, are slippery, or too thick to hoop. Another suggestion I'd offer, is to hoop your stabilizer and then pin or baste the onesie on top. After reading your post again, I think your hoop needs the tape added. I used strips of sticky stabilizer on one of mine & left the paper attached. Been working real good for couple of yrs, at least. Good luck!

I don't think you want to stretch the fabric or else it will distort when the design is done. You don't want it to pucker. I say its very important as to which stabilizer you are using behind it. Good luck!

It's important what type of stabalizer you use. For knits I typically use a no show mesh iron on stabalizer. Works great on knits. You shouldn't have the need to stretch the fabric as this will distort the design once removed from the hoop.

I never hoop anything! I hoop my stabilizer and depending on what stabilizer I use, I either use a spray adhesive to stick my item to it or if it's one that is water activated, I wet it and stick my item down. I use my software to add a baste stitch around the design and then send it and the design to my machine. The baste design will stitch first and hold the item to the stabilizer and then the design will stitch. It's really easy to then remove the basting stitches. And Nygal is correct, you never want to stretch the item tight because it will distort the design when you remove it from the hoop. And if you are stitching on knits, it's better to wash them first because a lot of times they shrink just a bit and the design won't shrink.

Try using either a spray adhesive to adhere the garment to the stabilizer or use a sticky stabilizer - a cut away or tear away - as the embroidery will need some of the stabilizer to remain behind the letters/numbers so they don't pull through. Then use a wash away stabilizer on top of the garment to give added stability to your stitching.
