Housekeeping vs. quilting!

You know, so many of us struggle to balance keeping a decent house with time to enjoy our passion of quilting, me included.

But today I had a revelation...........!!!:p:thumbup:

Amen!! That is the main reason to watch that show!!

MaryStoaks 06-11-2012 09:24 AM

No matter how messy my house can get when I am on a quilting "bender" ... I feel so normal and neat after seeing that show.

QuiltnNan 06-11-2012 09:40 AM

good one!!

Sunnie 06-11-2012 09:44 AM

Thanks Jan, I feel so much better now.

Helovesme 06-11-2012 11:25 AM

THAT made me laugh!

0tis 06-11-2012 11:44 AM

Works for me - and more time for sewing...

mom-6 06-11-2012 11:57 AM

I'm definitely not a neatnik, but I'm usually more concerned about organization in my workspaces (desk, kitchen, studio) than in the rest of my abode. So guess that defines my priorities, doesn't it...

Funny,

I was washing windows (in and out!) this weekend and my husband walked up to me and asked me when the company was coming. I sprayed him with Windex.

I'm laughing, as I'm trying to figure out how to clean up before I leave for 1 1/2 week conference on the west coast.. I can't leave the place the way it is.. and I'm going to be very tied up at work, and usually bring home some work on the weekend, but might have to go in.. Yup.. I'm in a panic..

I always say my dust bunnies have pets! No choice when it comes down to cleaning or quilting!

teacherbailey 06-12-2012 02:48 AM

Even my craft/sewing room looks OK after I watch the show...so I love it!!!!!

Scakes 06-12-2012 03:19 AM

Think I'll watch an episode of it today before the cleaning bug hits again. LOL!

BeverlyH 06-12-2012 03:23 AM

Watching that show sure gets me in gear!

ILoveToQuilt 06-12-2012 03:56 AM

My dust bunnies have names and personalities! I hate doing dishes and would rather clean the bathroom than do dishes (sick, aren't I?). Ah well...doing more cleaning means less quilt time. Tough dilemma...oh what to do??? Make me happy or make family happy.:p

Hi Jan in Virginia, as the old saying goes, "quilt forever, clean whenever" is my motto. I clean when I can't stand to look at the dust any longer or if I am having company. Mary in Virginia

grandme26 06-12-2012 08:56 AM

I'd rather quilt than clean so my solution was to hire a maid that would clean everything weekly

pawebdoctor 06-12-2012 01:42 PM

lol... though my husband wouldn't appreciate it.

SewBarbie 06-13-2012 03:20 AM

I love this! The house just gets dirty again--I'd rather be at my machine!!!

cosyjo 06-13-2012 06:57 AM

I try hard to seperate the two but my quilting keeps crawling out into the family room

JoanneS 06-22-2012 08:49 AM

Thanks Jan! We all owe that show a GREAT deal for helping us get rid of a great deal of guilt LOL.

My DH and I have been cleaning out daughter and son in laws house so they can move. We have been working on it for over 4 weeks. During that time I have washed about 70 loads of childrens clothing - most too small for my grand boys - and we made 6 seperate trips, car loaded to the gills with donations of that clothing, books and magazines. That's the good part! My DH also cleaned out 2 bays of a 3 car garage which was loaded with garbage, recycles and boxes that had been moved twice and never emptied. He's made at least 3 trips to the recycling center to get rid of that stuff.

We threw out thousands of dollars of very pricey make up my daughter bought and never used - pitched it, as old make up can be loaded with unpleasant bacteria. We donated at least a thousand dollars worth of 'scrap booking' material, also never used. If I added up the original cost of the donated clothes (some never worn) and other stuff that was donated, the estimated total of original purchase price is around $12,000!

Had to wash the clothes because clean and dirty were mixed together. In the clothes were at least 150 pairs of socks and 100 pair of underwear. Apparently, buying new is easier than using the washer and dryer!

We're leaving on the 26th with my two grandboys and I an actually looking forward to the 12 hour drive home!!!

If my DH EVER coomplains about how our home is kept, I'll buy him a 1 way ticket to our daughters home!!!!
