How do you convert VHS tapes to DVD's?

I have some VHS tapes and would like to convert them over to DVD's.

We have a VHS recorder but can't get it to work since we haven't bought the converter box for the antenna.

What a pain!

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

also I was wondering if there is a place that you can just take your VHS tapes and they can convert them over to DVD for you???

I am not sure about the copyrighted ones. But home movies I think someone can. Try Kinko's or a camera place.

My stepson did this with a few of ours, but he hooked the vcr to his computer and burnt the dvd's there. Not sure how (he's a computer genius/guru) but that's how he created ours. If you know someone that is computer savy, perhaps they could save you the expense of buying the other machine.

I have transfered close to 100 of my home tapes to DVD. It is pretty easy to do on a VCR/DVD recorder. I have a Magnavox I got at Walmart. It has done a good job and I still have to find time to do more of them. I donated my VCR tapes to the local library after I copied them over to DVDs. You could ask at places like the hospital if they would be interested in the VCR tapes. They have lending libraries as well for the patients usually.

I recently bought software and hardware for my computer called VHS2DVD, it was NOT easy to understand and with all the tech support in e-mail form I couldn't make it work right so I sent it back for a refund.

You're welcome. I was so pleased to be able to do this as some of my VCR tapes are quite old! Dating back to 1980. so a lot of what I taped then is no longer available and I hated to lose that stuff. It is really easy to follow the directions on the VCR/DVD recorder I thought. Most of it is self explanatory. You get a menu and you choose the function you want. I would highly recommend it. The only thing you really need to remember is if you transfer them over to DVDs at least on my Magnavox you have to finalize the process to make the DVD work on other DVD machines. I haven't done that yet with most of mine and will have to go back and do it. So mine can only be seen on this machine til I get it done. I have finalized the ones I have done for the kids. It isn't hard just a step I didn't take the time to do.

I have taped off lots of TV series I like and I need to get busy and finish taping the rest off. I have three big plastic bins full of tapes to work on yet. We are TV people. I love certain series and lots of movies.
