So the strangest thing has been happening lately! Dh bought a box of dog treats for the outside dogs and keeps the food and treats in the garage. Brand new box, only 3 treats out of it. Closes the garage door, comes in house and in for the night. Well, yesterday morning dh went out to go to work and always gives the dogs treats before he goes. So he opened the garage door, went to box of treats and it is completely empty! Only a few crumbs. No signs of chewing on the box just an empty box! What the heck!! Do not know what it is or how it got in!! So he goes out last night and gets another box of treats, closes garage door, comes in house. Goes out this morning and guess what..no treats! Seriously?! No chewing on box. So now have to figure out what this thing is..just hope its not a skunk...eww

Raccoons are very good food thieves!

I'd be careful, if you keep feeding it like that it is going to be gigantic. Good luck.

let us know who the culprit is when you find out

NikkiLu 07-30-2011 05:12 AM

Yes, sounds like a raccoon to me too - they can even open Tupperware.

sewnsewer2 07-30-2011 05:34 AM

Oh dear. I hope you find the culprit.

Raccoons.

The scary part - if everything is locked up - they're already living with you.

lauriejo 07-30-2011 05:52 AM

Yep sounds like a raccoon to me. I would get a plastic container for the treats, one with a lid that will lock on tight. Now that they now the treats are there they will keep coming back.

how do they get in garage. check for openings... animals will search housing that is warm...check under the hood of the car for nesting materal, or right arund the garage, or if you have storage near the ceiling ,rafters.
Could be squirrels, We have one that can carry a whole stale bagel off te deck and across the yard and up a tree.
good luck..pls let us know.

Looks like you'll have to get a critter-cam.

Amythyst02 07-30-2011 06:24 AM

I can hardly wait to hear who/what is taking your treats...

lauriejo 07-30-2011 06:27 AM

Maybe get a Have A Heart trap, it won't kill the animal. Then you can let it go somewhere far away.

erstan947 07-30-2011 06:32 AM

I think I would borrow a wild life camera....I would love tho know what was getting them:)

michelehuston 07-30-2011 08:49 AM

Im checking with some friends to see if they have a trap that will cage the critter but not kill it! Strangest thing ever!!! Will keep you posted!
