We've done everything we can to get ready for the storm. Much better prepared than during last years freak snowstorm when we lost power for 5 days. I'm crossing my fingers and toes that we keep power but you never know. Lots of trees around-very pretty but not power line friendly. The worst is that the rain is just going to sit on top of us for 3 days or so. I have friends very near where the storm will make landfall. Just tried to contact them to see if they have mandatory evacuation yet.

Our basement is only for furnace hot water heater.Have sump pump but if electric is out pump won't work. Just had to invest in a new fuel oil tank. Not looking forward to more expense. Have been on net and phone trying to find generator.NOT! Stores sold out. Seems like the whole state is out. WISHING EVERYONE SAFE.

Prayers for all my East Coast quilting buddies-friends in New York have left already for Florida for the winter-hope all of you are safe and hunkered down already-CNN said it is still coming and is going to be a whopper

It's snowing here now, the second snow so far this Fall.

Battened down here in Brooklyn. The subway is shut down, so no work for a couple of days. More quilting time!

IF things stay the way they are then we should only get rain...but who knows the path it will take. Either way my family is prepared. God bless us all.

It does sound crazy. Take this seriously and find a safe place. This is a very serious storm. We have been through many in both SC and FL. Water and wind are a powerful combination.

Please , Please, take this storm seriously!! This is not going to be a two day event. This could be a week or more depending where you are. I'm listening to the weather channel too. They are giving you good information and when they say they have never seen this before they are giving you a very strong warning. When people on the weather channel start giving warnings like that you pay attention. If this storm was hitting Alabama, and I'm 250 miles from the coast, I would be preparing for power to be out for at least a week or more. My family who lives on the coast would be preparing for horrible conditions for at least a month. During some of the Big Storms, Katrina as an example, they were without "life as we know it " for over a month and they were 3 hours away from where the storm went ashore. They were on the Northeast side, sort of like New York is supposed to be. I would hate to add winter conditions on top of that. I'm concerned for people who live in high rise apartments. They higher up you are the worse the wind is. Think about moving to a lower level. I dont know which is harder. Being in it, or watching people who are in it not paying attention. We are getting those tv reports too!

All of you please think safe and stay safe. Please follow advice you are getting. My prayers are for you and your families. I hope it is NOT as bad as they say it will be.

I live on Long Island's south shore (Mastic Beach) a block from the Great South Bay. I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared of this one!! We do have a french drain system in our finished basement - that's where my quilting room is. If we lose power, I have to fire up the Honda generator to keep the pumps going. I moved all my fabrics to higher shelves and all my sewing/serger machines are upstairs now on my main level. Just now we received a Voluntary Evacuation Order via recorded phone message.
We moved our third car two miles north to a friend's house and I'm ready to run with my 6 cats in 6 carriers. My husband works for the power company so he MUST be gone during most of this (not happy about that). Please everyone affected by this storm be safe and take no chances. Your belongings are not worth putting yourself in danger.
