I broke down and did it.

After reading all the help a kitty cat can be, I was given one yesterday. I would post a picture but my computer is so old it is next to impossable to do so. He is yellow and white, his back, head and half his tail are yellow and the rest is white. The person who gave him to me says he is 3 months old, tall and slinder, and she had to give him away because he was terrorizing her 2 yr old son. I do not have a name for him yet. The other people were calling him Harry Potter but that is not my thing. He is tryig to help me type so better close.

Podunk Princess 10-15-2013 06:23 AM

Congratulations on the new addition to your household. He will bring you lots of joy and laughter I'm sure. I agree with you, he needs a name he can be proud of!

nativetexan 10-15-2013 06:47 AM

You could call him Tab, after Tab Hunter. sorry, that name just popped into my head. Shows how old I am! Have loads of fun with your new kitty!!

Neesie 10-15-2013 07:23 AM

Congratulations! Just be gentle with him and he'll be a gentle cat. I'm sure his personality will inspire you to choose the perfect name for him. :)

jrhboxers 10-15-2013 07:40 AM

Welcome to the world of Furbabies. You will be surprised why you waited so long. He will give you an idea for his name. My old man, 14yo, was originally named Boomer after a team mascot but over the years it has morphed into Booger. You can probably guess why.

nativetexan 10-15-2013 08:00 AM

Aw, my friend in England just emailed me that they got a black kitten today. They live in a cottage and kitty should find a good home there. My three give me many laughs every day!

Jingle 10-15-2013 09:12 AM

Many years ago our youngest Daughter around 2 YO would aggravate our then cat while he slept. In turn he would hide in doorways and jump out and scare the bejeebers out of her. After I caught on to what was going on I told her if she left him alone he wouldn't bother her. Finally she did and he stopped scaring her.
Paybacks are not always fun.

tessagin 10-15-2013 09:32 AM

Like nativetexan said "Tab" like one of the keys on your keyboard. Tab Hunter is still cute though. Like he's helping you try to "Hunt" for the right "tab" key to press!

Suzette316 10-15-2013 10:19 AM

Congrats on the new kitty!! :)

I am fostering 4 beautiful kittens for my local humane society and cannot find a single person who wants to adopt even one of them. :( I am so happy you and your kitty found each other though! Nothing like a kitten to keep you smiling all day long! :)

lynnie 10-15-2013 01:34 PM

oh, so so happy for you and your new furball. does he sleep with you yet? did you know most ginger cats are boys? i bet he's a real cutie, and he's going to be a great inspector and lots of great coompany. have fun and keep us posted.
give him lots of love and snuggles. my kitties always loved playing hide and seek with the sheets

CharlotteO 10-15-2013 02:13 PM

I had one black cat given to me at Halloween. Do Not, repeat, Do Not accept a black cat at Halloween. Her name was DC, and I bet I don't even need to tell you what that stood for. Oh, the things that furbaby got into. Unfortunately allergies got worse and worse until DC had to go to a new home. Kids are grown, cat allergies not a problem, but we got a dog, which I am allergic to!!! Which means that my husband has to clean up after her. Isn't that a shame !!!!
(DC = D**n Cat, and it wasn't always darn. )

Stitchnripper 10-15-2013 03:28 PM

Glad to hear. We have loved our yellow and white furbabies.

sewingsuz 10-15-2013 03:32 PM

Autumn would be a cute name since you got him in the fall season. Have fun!

nativetexan 10-15-2013 03:58 PM

one thing about Halloween, keep your black kitty inside before, during and after. Kids can be mean.

stablemom 10-15-2013 05:37 PM

Oh you lucky lady! You are going to love having him around, and cuddling with you. Enjoy!!!

didi 10-16-2013 02:50 AM

Sounds to me that he is already settling in to his new home. So happy for you and enjoy...Cats have their own personality and I'm sure a name will come up for him. LOL

lovelyl 10-16-2013 03:53 AM

Congrats! He will repay you many times over with love!

judi wess 10-16-2013 04:09 AM

Congratulations. My best kittys were neutered males. They stayed kittenlike and didn't "mark" 'cause I had them neutered young. The "boys" were such good company.

Retired Fire Chief 10-16-2013 04:22 AM

Well it sounds like your new little boy is comfortable with his new home. Congratulations, give him lots of love and he will repay you two fold. The right name will come to you once you get to know him.

coopah 10-16-2013 04:26 AM

Enjoy that furbaby. We miss our two blackies. Good luck with the name. It took us two years to settle on a name for one of our babies!

The funny thing is that I am fostering three orange tabbys. Two are girls!!! Isn't that strange??

girlsfour 10-16-2013 05:13 AM

Kittens are so much fun. They can be just crazy, but they will settle down. Just remember it will take a little while. Here are a couple of tips from a seasoned cat owner and cat foster mom -

1. Get one of those cardboard scratching pad things. They aren't too expensive and it will save your furniture. Remember, declawing is inhumane. Many cats with behavior issues are declawed.

2. Feed him a good quality food. Your local pet food store can help with this. Male cats can get the crystals in their bladder from the cheap cat food. It's very painful and costly. They also poop less with the high quality food - there isn't as much grain in it.

3. Give him a tiny bit of canned food every day. It's good for their kidneys. I have been told to even put a little water on it so they get even more liquids. The shelter I foster for says that cats don't get near enough liquids.

Good luck - post pictures!!!

We adopted a black barn cat who's mother died--he was so small he would fit in my hand---now he is 9 years old and 18 pounds---I held him and rubbed his belly so he would like that and now you cannot touch his belly---he gives us lots of joy and laughter and he decides where and when he will be petted and when he will sit on your lap and demand to be scratched---cannot imagine not having him around---loves to chew on plastic--doesn't bite any off ---just punches holes in it---the plastic he is laying on in avitar is his favortie kind

Grace MooreLinker 10-16-2013 06:19 AM

they can be loads of company and fun.

mighty 10-16-2013 06:39 AM

Congrats!! Pets are so wonderful!!!

gramma nancy 10-16-2013 06:39 AM

My 17-year-old Gracie says to congratulate both you and your new kitty. When my pets did not keep the names they were given at the shelter, the right name just popped out of thin air eventually. My dearly departed long-haired black and white 18 pounder was "Adam" at the shelter, but Nicodemus Popadopolas ("Nico") to me.

mummadee 10-16-2013 06:48 AM

I didn't know that gingers are usually males. My son has a pair of brothers. Both gorgeous. I've only had females, calicos and blacks.

solstice3 10-16-2013 06:50 AM

Congrats!!! If he isn't "fixed" get that done, FAST.... you will be glad you did.

Sandra-P 10-16-2013 08:17 AM

Good for you! There is nothing like having a kitty help out and inspect everything you do. Glad he has a good home.

caspharm 10-16-2013 08:31 AM

Enjoy your new baby! We are currently without right now (we just lost our oldest and last cat in Dec) and I miss having one. However, we would like to do some traveling in the near future and it will be easier without having to deal with pet sitters.

nivosum 10-16-2013 08:41 AM

My husband once named a mischievous kitten "Hermes" after the Olympian God.

grandme26 10-16-2013 10:19 AM

Thank you for all the advice. It is needed badly. It hs been about 20 yrs since I have had a cat. Oh ys, he is neutered. Little kitty cat is settling in fast. He has found his, at least for now, favorite place to sleep during the day, he sleeps on the bed at night with my toy poodle and myself. My poodle is two years old and has been trying to make friends. The kitty cat is not afraid of Heidi as he has been raised with a dog. This morning they were chasing each other around. So far he has helped me cut fabric, pin pieces together, tho I had to call a hault to that, he was trying to play with the pins, and he supervised as I sew. All is quiet right now.

Raine54RN 10-16-2013 10:33 AM

I had 2 pure Tonkinese cats, and the female died at 3 years old. Decided right then if I ever replaced her it would be a rescue, well don't you know, my daughters boyfriend found a tiny kitten in a CAR ENGINE. She apparently climbed there for warmth and when he heard the mewing, waited til the owner showed up to rescue her. He took her to vet and then asked my DD if I'd like her. She is a grey tabby, named Dove Bar ( for chocolate) and she is a love. A great decision! Enjoy your new friend, their antics and love will make you smile every day. Congrats!

Animals are wonderful to have around - I was gone for 1 1/2 weeks, my husband said the cats kept him company in the evenings. I'm home now and they are all in their various chosen spots napping - they knew my husband had me for company. All of ours are rescues from outside - Enjoy your new baby - My cats love to pick the pins out of the pin cushions, sleep on any pile of fabric and steal anything and everything from my sewing room.

FroggyinTexas 10-17-2013 08:05 AM

My 8 year old Yorkie is named Booger and it's his name that is one my personalized license plate. When you read the plate, its says Texas
Booger
I raised him from a puppy, but have two rescues, a Pomeranian named Gucci (that was the name on her tag when she came from pound, just hours away from being put down) and another Giant Hulk of a Yorkie we name WookieDoodle.

I know your Booger is as great a joy as mine. froggyintexas

Laughed so hard last night. The kitty cat was chasing his tail. this is a fun time watching a dog and cat becoming friends.

nature lover 10-17-2013 04:52 PM

Congrats our your new friend!! Cats are wonderful creatures, just be patient during the kitten stage, doesn't last forever. Too sweet, sounds like maybe his name should be "Butter" or "Scotch" for butterscotch. Enjoy and love, love, love him

Rose_P 10-17-2013 07:15 PM

He will help you, for sure, but maybe not so much with the quilting. Keep in mind that for cats, one of the most dangerous things in your sewing room is thread if they eat it, which many want to do for some reason. One of mine is so interested in thread that she actually figured out how to find it on a machine that was folded inside a cabinet. Luckily, I caught her before she ate any of it, but she had pulled it all around the room as if she was trying to make herself a spider web.

Wishing him a long happy life with you! Let us know when he tells you what his name should be.
