I'm soooooooooo excited!! I really seriously hate moving but this time I don't have to find something that'll do. I get to have plenty of time and find a house that's just right and buy it!! First house hunting expedition will be the 23rd and 24th!! We're even pre-approved and I have a list from the realtor.

PegD 01-14-2011 05:35 PM

Have fun and good luck on finding your dream home. Remember to have enough room for a sewing room.

erstan947 01-14-2011 05:36 PM

How fun is that???? Keep us posted on the process:)

Jim's Gem 01-14-2011 05:42 PM

Hope you have fun finding the "right" house!!!

carolaug 01-14-2011 05:43 PM

remember to buy what you can afford and not what they tell you can afford...

hazeljane 01-14-2011 05:46 PM

Congratulations! We are trying to sell our house, so we can buy one that fits my frame and fabric. LOL. We have found the PERFECT house, but need to sell this one before we can buy that one, so we are just waiting with bated breath and hoping someone loves our house as much as we do- soon!

I love looking at houses. It's always fascinating to me.

pippi65 01-14-2011 05:46 PM

That's so nice. Where will you be looking to buy? Now's the time everybody keeps saying. Good luck. Take your time and you'll know the house when you can't stop thinking about where all your things will go!!
That's how we were when we found our house!! I have two sewing rooms--and they were the first ones to get done. Where I used to live I had a little tiny corner in the basement for 14 years!! So have fun and get your dream home that you want to stay there till your old!!!
I told my hubby that the only way I leave her is when they carry out my cold dead body!!!

Scissor Queen 01-14-2011 05:54 PM

We'll be looking in Liberal Kansas. It's about 40 miles away from hubby's work. The *first* thing I'm looking at is space for a good size sewing room!!

This is good advise. Keep in mind the insurance and taxes. Hope all with goes well the home hunting.

Ramona Byrd 01-14-2011 06:07 PM

I'll tell you what I told my kids to do.

First, go to that house and look at the neighborhood at all hours of the day and well into the night. Go there on weekends and listen and look at the kids.

THEN go to the police department and ask if that is a good neighborhood, and if they've had many calls from that area and what they were for. Drugs you don't want in your back yard, it will only get worse as time goes on.

Meet some of the neighbors BEFORE you sign any thing at all. Ask what they think of the neighborhood and would they buy there again.

Drive around several streets, look at how all the houses are being maintained.

Then when everything checks out, you can sign and move into your dream home.
Good luck.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-14-2011 06:09 PM

That's really exciting!! I've always had to "find a house" b/c of a company move and it's not the same as having time to find just what you want.
I'm so happy for you!!!!!! Keep us posted :D

I totally agree with Ramona........I've helped several people buy a home and she hit this on the head.........Neighbor's are everything.........If you go to a gated community, read the by-laws there too........ You will enjoy your home so much more in the future.......Best of luck...............

BluegrassGurl 01-14-2011 06:25 PM

Congratulations!!! Best wishes on finding "the one"!

littlehud 01-14-2011 06:51 PM

Congrats. I can't wait to see what you find. Keep us posted.

Jingle 01-14-2011 06:52 PM

Good luck, I sure hope you buy the right for you house. Watch some of the shows on HGTV, lots of helpful pointers to get your house sold. Like take down all family pictures, all personal knick knacks, declutter, move out excess furniture and such, you want them to look at the house not your stuff. Make sure you have the house priced right, try and find out what other comparable houses in your neighborhood has sold for and price yours close to that price.

franie 01-14-2011 06:57 PM

How exciting!

A good neighborhood is no indication there aren't any drugs. The town we're moving to is pretty small so I'm sure all the realtors are familiar with good and bad neighborhoods.

I don't have to sell a house!! All I have to do is pack and move!!

brushandthimble 01-14-2011 07:17 PM

When we were looking we made the rounds of alot of open houses. DH saw this one without me and I went the next day with the kids and made an offer on the way home. Good luck, will be waiting for updates.

Airwick156 01-14-2011 07:17 PM

Congratulations!!! Make sure you get one with a sewing room as big as you would ever want it to be in future years. That way you will be happy with the size and not just settle for a small room. I want a sewing room as big as the house is. LOL

BETTY62 01-14-2011 07:18 PM

Good for you. I know this is a very exciting time for you and your family. May you find "the one" real soon.

PS: Make sure it has big closets.

Hosta 01-14-2011 07:35 PM

how exciting it is to buy a house

CarrieAnne 01-14-2011 07:39 PM

Good advice because quiet daytime neighbors do not always mean they are quiet nightime neighbors.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-15-2011 05:49 AM

Scissorqueen, I just realized how perfect the timing is for you with the market the way it is!

ssgramma 01-15-2011 05:57 AM

Happy house hunting! I hope you find yourself a great sewing space ;-)

DoxieMom 01-15-2011 06:48 AM

drdolly 01-15-2011 06:56 AM

Lots of luck. Don't get to overwhelmed, or disappointed. The right one is out there.

anima57 01-15-2011 07:21 AM

EXCELLENT IDEA!!

anima57 01-15-2011 07:22 AM

Re-do---Excellent idea to check police department, go to area all hours of day or night, weekends.

That's tough to do when you're currently living 8 hours one way away.

anima57 01-15-2011 07:42 AM

yes, been there and did not do any kind of a check like that. bad decision on my part. big mistake. wwould have been worth it to get a cheap motel room overnight maybe a Friday night to saturday. would have saved me a ton of problems.

amandasgramma 01-15-2011 07:55 AM

Boy, great time for buyers!!!! Congratulations, and like someone said, be sure to buy what YOU can afford, not what the bank says you can afford.

jad1044 01-15-2011 08:43 AM

Look first off for the perfect room that will be your sewing room - with lots of storage, place for the stash, and everything to make YOU happy! Then look at the rest. :)

lynnie 01-15-2011 09:50 AM
