I had a pretty busy day at work, it was 3:00 by the time I had time to look at the clock and realize I had missed lunch. I went to quilt guild from work and was kind of hungry so I decided to get a Chai Tea Latte from Starbucks and pretend it was a meal.... don't judge me.....lol

When I got up to the window the guy at the window told me that mine had been paid for by the guy in front of me. Wow wasn't that nice! I had heard of this but never known anyone who acutally had it happen to them... now I have to PIF.

The chai tea latte from Panera Bread is excellent, too.

redvette54 09-28-2011 03:28 AM

How cool. Now what are you going to do to keep it going? Idea's anyone? You could pay for a fat quarter at the LQS for the next person checking out.

azdesertrat 09-28-2011 03:33 AM

If you are in the drive through usually by the time they get to the window, you have already ordered. My husband has bought meals for people at Burger King before, the people working the window get all befuddled, it takes them a minute to decide how to do it.

We live in a college town. The boy behind me at the grocery store was buying a 6 pack of water. I told the cashier that I would pay for that too. The college boy threw a fit, like I was trying to steal it or something. I told him never mind. Never did figure that one out.

Some people are offended when you offer them anything. My husband while usually very generous, is not a very gracious receiver. He will argue with people, I'm still working on that one - he tells me "but they don't have to do that" he struggles with the understanding that just because he didn't NEED them to pay for his lunch or whatever doesn't mean that for whatever reason they didn't NEED to do it.

gigi4419 09-28-2011 06:09 AM

Very nice!

ChrisB 09-28-2011 06:30 AM

That was so nice - you just don't find a lot of that going on these days.

collady 09-28-2011 06:36 AM

I have had it happen and have done it also. I also believe that Chai Tea Latte is a meal!

blueangel 09-28-2011 08:02 AM

How nice

Zhillslady 09-28-2011 09:43 AM

I do it all the time, especially at Dunkin Donuts. Kinda nice knowing you made someone's day.

RedGarnet222 09-28-2011 09:48 AM

I love your story so much people can be so nice.

I had something simular happen to me. Not with food but, once a customer bought me a wool floral area rug I wanted at a business across the street and left it with no name of the person to thank them. I was thrilled and befuddled. That rug was seventy dollars!

RedGarnet222 09-28-2011 09:48 AM

opps .. double post.

We have something like that around here called "Pay it Backward." It's especially easy at fast food drive ups. There was an incident in Taylorville at the McD's where one person did it, so the next 11 cars did it!! That was so cool. It's promoted by the local christian radio station...

With my luck the guy behind me was buying for the whole office and I'd wind up with a $200 bill. Feel bad asking how much their bill is before I offer to pay for it though.lol That makes me look cheap then. Just wanted to do something nice.

ScrappyAZ 09-29-2011 05:06 AM

That just happened to a friend of mine the other day! After a day of running errands and donating to various charity groups, she decided to treat herself to Starbucks and was surprised when the cashier said the lady in front of her paid for her coffee. She thought it was karma, but maybe there's something going on at Starbucks where customers pay for other customers? Does it have something to do with National Coffee Day?

lol. Nah, I don't think it's the least bit unreasonable to ask how much it is before offering. I always do. There's been a couple times I just left a $5 and said put it on their tab. It's still something nice to do, and it leaves them wondering all day

Jennifer22206 09-29-2011 06:34 AM

I agree, Panera is better, but that Starbuck drive though is too easy to pass up....I have to pass it every day on my way to work. So expensive but I let myself have a treat once in a while.
