My curfew was lightning bugs. My parents didn't call my cell, they yelled my name. I played outside, not online. If I didn't eat what mom cooked, I didn't eat.

Remember when "Take a picture, it'll last longer!" was considered a quick comeback?

Clove and Black Jack Gum?
Wax bottles filled with juice and candy cigarettes?

Razzles candy? It was candy that turned into gum when you chewed it?

Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo?

What do you remember from back in the day?

Yes I remember these. It was a much simpler time.

I remember that if I didn't like the food on my plate, i was allowed to sit there till I did.

I remember playing out after dark chasing lightening bugs and putting them in jars with muslin over them, and listening to the gentle murmur of tired adults talking as they relaxed in their rocking chairs on the front porch.

I remember how the lantern light shined through the window and made the edges of the windows turn black as it it streamed on the porch and turned the shadows of the vines that grew over and around some of the porch uprights into a sharp black.

Strange how certain things come back after many years. Most of these memories I welcome, and they make me feel that I had the most marvelous childhood that anyone could have had.
And this in spite, or because of the fact we didn't have running water or electricity or indoor plumbing till the 40s.

The creamery where my grandparents lived where they bought milk and cream from local farmers and made delicious butter and real ice cream.

Building forts in the vacant lot next door with all the kids in the neighborhood.

Riding my bike with my BFF to the swimming pool every afternoon.

Eating fresh tomatoes out in the garden with my dad.

Doing the laundry every Monday with a wringer washer. Sprinkling the clothes and ironing on Tuesday.

The beauty shop with the big machine that had electric curlers attached to it.

Going to the bank with my dad where he played poker with the dollar bills with the teller and the president of the bank.

Going for Sunday drives and not knowing where we were going, just going wherever we wanted.

So many things, so many memories.

I remember watermelon stands. You picked out the watermelon and they cut it and served it to you on plates with a fork. Oh yes, they plugged it to make sure it was a good one first. Sure would like those stands to come back. My dolly dishes were made of china not plastic and I never broke a single one.got my last big doll when I was twelve. Neither me nor any of my friends became a woman or had breasts until we were about 14 not 10 .

Funny to hear Black Jack gun mentioned. My daughter just sent me some she found at a Crackerbarrel store.

Oh I loved the Sunday drives. Going to the drive-in. Hayrides and bonfires in the fall. 10 cent ice cream cones. Making apple butter in the big copper pot.
