I'm Looking For Patterns For Specific Type Bags...

I need to make two specific type bags and am looking for ideas.

The first one is for my pastor's wife. She fell last week and broke her leg. While at her house, delivering a meal, her phone went off...inside her shirt. She laughed and pulled it from her shirt, explaining she had no where to keep it on her because she couldn't carry it in her hands while using crutches and with her leg brace, jeans were out so she had no pockets. So, I was thinking of trying to make her a bag that would hang around her neck, but wouldn't be too heavy or cumbersome.

The second is for my walker. I have several back, hip and spine issues. Some days I feel fine and can get away without using any assistance (though I usually pay for it later), other days I need a cane and on really bad days, like today, I need a walker. I have the same problem as my pastor's wife, though. I need a way to carry things around with me. I would need it to be able to come off for the days it can fold up.

Any thoughts, ideas or patterns that would work to hang off of the front of my walker or around someone's neck?

for her phone the pattern I've used is called Bare Essentials bag - I made one for a friend and one for myself to take to a quilt conference, but ... I teach school and have a 5th grader who wears a wireless heart monitor. She keeps leaving it places so I made a smaller version of this bag that she now wears everywhere. Makes me so happy everytime I see it. These sling across the chest - over the shoulder - so you hardly know you have it on. Has 2 pockets inside - for card or cash - and one pocket outside.

My phone fits in the outside pocket if that gives you an idea of the size. It's on my cutting board so you can see inches. It takes 1/2 yard and a fat quarter. The FQ makes the lining of the purse and of the pocket.

I searched on the internet for walker bags. Lots of links came up, both patterns and ready made ones you can buy. I'm technoligically challenged and can't post a link.

I'm so glad this topic came up! I helped at a fundraiser at a senior housing complex, and I thought, "If we had decorative items for walkers, we'd make a fortune!"

I've already found a good pattern to start making for next year -- thanks!

I've used this pattern for cell phone bags:

It is a bit pricey but comes with the printed interfacing to make 3.

How about a wristlet?

I make them with a small tab, and attach a keyfob-type handle for your wrist with steel split ring, so you can have essential keys attached and handy.

When I saw the post about the "Bare Essentials Bag", I was reminded that I have a similar pattern so I made that one for my pastor's wife. Then I googled Walker Bags like another member suggested and found a great, easy pattern that I was able to make this afternoon. I didn't take a photo of the back of the walker bag (my hip was hurting too much), but there's a large center section to the bag, two front pockets (shown) and three back pockets. The first photo shows it behind the bar, which is easier for me, and the second photo shows it in front of the bar so you can see the bag better. Thanks for all the help!

Wow, that was quick. Glad you were able to find the patterns you needed. Both very pretty!

I was looking through pattern books at Joann's the other day and happened to notice that McCall's has a several nice looking walker totes.
