I've lived in Iowa my entire life and have never gone to the fair. Not once.
They do have a butter cow. last year they did a butter Shawn Johnson and I hear this year they're doing a butter Michael Jackson too as well as others the plans weren't finalized last time I saw an article on it.

Loretta, keep me posted on your plans for Des Moines in October - a couple of us are meeting up there!

I've not entered one yet, but the fair always has quilts - at least one shop in the area takes quilts over for people every year. Maybe next year is my year to enter one, huh?

Well if you come to Iowa SE that is you should stop by and see our Lewellyn house. It is a URR house. There is a tunnel under the kitchen floor. When we were kids we always had our end of the year school picnic in the yard and they had a black figure that popped up when they opened the trap door in the floor. Now you can't see it anymore.
The house is set up to look exactly like it did in the 1800's. It was the home of Dr. Lewellyn and there are other places that used to be short distances away but alot of them don't exist anymore. There are some houses up around Pella that are URR houses as well. Never been in them tho.
I grew up with all this history.
