At noon, my time on Tuesday, my youngest called from NYC to tell me about the earthquake that had shaken her office building in NYC. We were thankful that no much but moving the computer had effected her. Then we got to watching Irene. On Tuesday the weather service was predicting that Irene might be as high as a Cat 3 hurricane and the path looked as if it was going to be directly over NYC. They got that part right. After sliding across the east coast, Irene came ashore again. This time directly over NYC at 9:00 a.m. this morning. Luckily by then she had dropped down to tropical storm strength, with just 65 mph winds. Daughter had some water damage in her home office, but not much else. No work tomorrow. The door to her apartment building is just a few steps from the last stop on the A Train in the Inwood section of Manhattan. Her office is a couple of blocks north of Union Square. It is a wee bit far to walk, so no going to work until the trains are running again.

So glad your daughter is ok.

We dodged a bullet in our 2 family rental home in Englishtown, NJ. The lake overflowed and flooded downtown, but didn't get to our street. Never thought about it, but the house must be on higher ground. Many folks will have to work very hard to clean out their homes, some will have to relocate temporarily.

Hope everyone in the storms path is OK!

So glad she is ok. Thank God it downgraded before it hit. Had been praying for all.

Your daughter is not far from me. I can take the train A to school when the #1 is not working right. I live on the other side of the Broadway bridge, in the Riverdale area of the Bronx.

I am so thankful your daughter is fine and had relatively little damage. We are blessed the hurricane was not nearly as bad as predicted.

I caught a bus from her apartment to go to the Target store the day of the Christmas blizzard! It was a hoot!
