I took my seven/eight year old Baby Lock in for it's first tune up. Wasn't having any problems, just thought it was time to get it serviced.
Picked it up on Saturday. According to the service rep, in addition to the tune up, the bobbin case needed replacing. That was an additional $30.00. Took the machine home and just as soon as I plugged it in, I see that only half of the LCD display screen is lit up. Didn't have that problem before taking it in. I called the shop and was told to bring it back that maybe a wire was loose. Left the machine there again. I missed the call when the rep called back. He left a message saying 'I opened up your machine and I don't see anything unplugged or loose connections. I do see that the left side of the screen is not lit up. I will call Baby Lock in the morning and see how much it will be for a new screen.' I knew the left side was not lit up, that's why I took it back. I'm sure they are expecting me to pay for a new screen. I have mixed feelings about it. It wasn't broke when I took it in. I suppose it could have 'just went out'. It is seven or eight years old. I'm thinking more like when it was opened for servicing, perhaps something was touched that shouldn't have been. What would you do/say?

You will not win, age of machine is against you, but you have to wonder who did what to it while it was in the shop. Still love your puppies and think of the one I used to have.

That's a tough one. I would get a detailed invoice on what was done and see if they give any kind of warranty on what was fixed or going to be fixed. Did they have a certificate hanging up saying they were a liscensed and trained place to work on Baby Lock? I took my Quilt Designer in a few months ago and feel like I got ripped off. Lesson learned, ASK the costs BEFORE you say ok! Good luck!

I would contact the Baby Lock company myself. This repair person doesn't sound totally reputable.

I think I would be a bit more assertive with them and tell them you won't be paying for their mistakes, and find another dealer :!:

I think a call to BabyLock might be good at this point.

They are 'authorized Baby Lock dealers'. I knew up front that the cost would be $70.00. I 'think' he said they would call if anything needed replacing. Didn't call and I didn't have a problem with the additional $30.00 for the bobbin case. They did, in deed, replace the bobbin case and gave me the old one. It's that light thing that bugs me.

Kathy, is it possible that you might have hit a pot hole or two on the way to the dealer??? Boards do go suddenly, and although I don't want to be on the dealers side...it could be possible

:( :(

That's the problem with lcd displays. They eventually burn out. I hope it can be fixed and it won't cost too much.

I took my Pfaff to be serviced. Something was broken in the process of it being serviced. He is going to fix it for free, so it depends on the serviceman.
